If you want to play with your RL friends, then keep subscribed but tell them that you're not going to be logged in unless they're doing something.
If you find yourself logged in and not doing something enjoyable, log out.
This.
Also, just taking a break really helps. Back in mid-April, I got bored of WoW and quit until mid-July, been playing since then and having fun. Taking a break helps because when you come back, things that had become routine and boring before aren't as such now.
Just my opinion though.

I wouldn't take the easiness of WotLK to heart just yet...remember when Sunwell came out? Nobody could even touch it unless you had very decent gear...wait till Icecrown Citadel opens up...we'll see how easy it is then.

I have a problem. Recently I began losing interest in WoW(!), but I kinda want to keep playing cos my friends are about to get a decent heroic group together and I still wanna stick around for the holidays. Any ways apart from leveling an alt (which I might, druid) to help keep me stuck into the game?
Take a break or play less seriously for a period of time, its what i do whenever i'm losing interest, and it always works. Try it out for a bit, only log on if theres something meaningful to do, like daily quests or when you lot are doing some instance together.

You could do what a friend of mine did;
Start playing Second Life, put on your robe and wizard hat...

For those not understanding his comment, check
this

On-topic: If you're bored with the game, leave it. That's all there is to it. Leave it and play something else. If you have access to two computers, log in and chat with your friends while you play something else like Heroes of Might and Magic.

The problem is not you, it's with every programmed game ever made..redundancy. Because very little, if any, A.I. is put into them and the reason for it is because the producers of such game understand their costumer base..make it repeatable and beatable. Ask yourself why is a game like chess..the same number of pieces on the same board for a thousand years is so popular... a game people play for a lifetime. Its the unknown factor..you don't what your opponent is going to do next.Same thing with baseball...you don't know whats going to happen next. With WoW..questing and dungeons are redundant..each level just being harder..but the opponents aren't superior..in example if a warlock is casting a spell..the target would run and grab an item to protect himself from that particular class of spells..thus showing tactical ability and forcing you to improvise. Nope..it's walk the boss into the corner..jump up and down.time his his AOE and dps him to death. Think about what was one of the most enjoyable and frustrating bosses to do..Prince in Kara. Yes there was an established way to beat him but just from the simple fact that you wouldn't know where the infernals would land or who would get hit with enfeeble made him a repeatable challenge. But unfortunately a large enough base of WoW players don't want (chessWoW)..they want (supermarioWoW).
