Wowhead Client - Unable to upload
Return to board index
Post by

Please note that the "Error in upload: 0,0" error at 100% is not the same as the problem being discussed in this thread. The former is an error on our server end, that briefly affected everyone who tried to upload. That should be fixed now. The latter only affects some users, and is a long-standing issue.

Alright, I figured something out in terms of the NOD32 issue. I did some tinkering with the advanced settings within nod32. For note, I am using version 3.0.672.0. If you turn on the advanced mode, under setup and then click on "Enter entire advanced setup tree..." You should see a lot of options that you can configure on your left. Under the "Web access Protection" Tree you should see "HTTP". If you click on that and disable the HTTP checking you should be able to run the Wowhead client without a hitch.
Again...
1. Under the Setup tab click "Toggle Advanced mode"
2. Click "Yes"
3. Click "Enter entire advanced setup tree..."
4. In the "Web access protection" tree click on "HTTP" (left-hand side)
5. Uncheck "Enable HTTP checking"
6. Click "OK"
7. Close NOD32 dialog box
8. Run Wowhead Client
9. Update
You should be golden now.
I'll do some more looking into a more permanent solution so that you do not have to completely disable HTTP checking.
This worked smooth for me. Finally I can upload everything I've gathered the last couple of months, thank you theesh!
EDIT: One question tho, is it important that I check the "Enable HTTP checking"-box after uploading?

I'd like to reiterate a question I asked a couple of days ago that perhaps Malgayne can help answer?
Is there a way to exclude Wowhead traffic from NOD32's HTTP checking? There is a section under the HTTP web access protection that allows for address exclusion. Perhaps if we could obtain the destination address that the client is trying to connect to we could then exclude it from NOD32's filtering. Now granted I am a little lazy to do some traffic sniffing between client and Wowhead so I can find the destination address so I will just throw that out there for someone to play with and see what happens.

I have to double-check with Skosiris to be sure, but I believe it's "upload.wowhead.com".

Looks like that worked, I had no issues uploading.

I have been having exactly the same upload issues.
The problems started immediately after I upgraded AVG 7 to AVG 8.5.
I am happy to report:
AVG ver 8.5.287 Solution found
Solution Walk-through:
Right-click the AVG systray icon (bottom right corner by the clock)
Click: "Open AVG User Interface"
Right-click: "Link scanner"
Click: "Open"
Under the heading: "Settings", all 3 check boxes will be checked ("proper" default install)
Change the check boxes to the following settings:
Enable AVG Search-shield (need web browser restart)
Enable AVG Active Surf-shield
Enable reporting of detected threats to AVG
Click: "Save Changes"
Close the AVG User interface window
Click back to this page and copy the URL (for later use, report success, fail, etc)
Close all browser windows
Open the Wowhead Client and upload your dataZ :D
... You're welcome ;) (in advance)
Open the web browser of your choice
Paste the URL to bring you back to this page
Please let me know if this helped you ;)
Posting your info here will help the devs find a solution to the problem.
Detailed "Fix" steps will help them replicate the issue/solution.
Don't be shy, I'm sure they want to help, they just need
us
to give them
Good DataZ
to point them in the right direction.
Thanks, Good hunting, and glad to help folks :)

When I downloaded client awhile back, everytime I uploaded data, it work fine. Then about 3 or so months back it would always hang up when uploading data, and I would be forced to close it. I just recently downloaded a add on that required me to update my java, and which is really weird, I thought I would try the wowhead client again to see if it would upload the data, to my surprise it just uploaded all my data, I'm not sure if the java has anything to do with the client or not, but I'm glad I can once again contribute data :)
Edit: Maybe its also because I uninstalled AVG too? lol

I just uploaded over 5.7 MB of data, thanks for the AVG fix. But I have another computer that has AVG and it does not have this problem.

Same here as well, last couple of days uploads fail - I did reenter the password and all that jazz in the client options, nothing.
Running the same antivirus software and firewall since 2004.

Running into the same problem, and not using any antivirus on this machine. Do you guys want a memory dump of Wowhead_client.exe? I can send you a full dump with heap (28 MB compressed), so you'd be able to see the state of the app when it failed on my machine (callstack, variables, etc.). Just send me an email if you want it.

This was definitely a server problem. We use the same box for development as we use for client uploads, and we broke the client uploads when we made some updates for the
Premium
signup system. Should be fixed now.

Still not working as of Friday, July 24, 11:07am PST.

I'm going to try what Alarius said about adding upload.wowhead.com to the addresses that will be excluded from filtering in the Nod32 http filter. I'll get back to you in a little while with the results (and a picture of my settings at that time).
Edit: Still no luck but ill keep trying
