well i was at range but tps isn't the issue it's straight threat. you need to get to 30% more threat than the tank to pull at range and i couldn't get over 60-70% of what the tank had so the difference between melee/ranged didn't come into it.
it's so far from a fair test of what we're talking about that you can barely see a 'fair test' from where i was and there's lots of factors which could make a big difference so i only mention that occasion (where i tried my best to pull and failed) as my reason for threat being my main concern with this idea.
what we need is for blizz to recognise this with a new tanking 'armour' spell ^_^
let's start the petition here!

You went into much more detail a while back on a topic about which shield was better for heroics: the merc shield or the SSO shield.
Never said you didn't recomend defense. Block cap in heroics is what? And since locks can't block irrelevant.
True, we do have a few other tricks:
http://ptr.wowhead.com/?spell=50511
for physical bosses
http://ptr.wowhead.com/?spell=11719
for spell casting bosses
Um, wow, I never expected you to take me seriously the first time around, never mind the second time when I answered with caps lock.
Anyways - The Merc Shield and SSO Shield comparison assumed that you were block capped, that is to say that switching between the shield essentially had no effect on avoidance.
Block capped means that you have 102.4% mitigation on a warrior/ paladin, it also implies that ~50% of that mitigation is pure avoidance. Druids at BC end game started off with ~30% dodge.
Warriors and druids have shouts to negate attack power and paladins have judgement of light to offset the damage intake.

no offence nabsickle, i know you're new, but repeating the OP but with added confusion and far less clarity doesn't really help further the thread.

...you can't simply here asakawa. In order to theorycraft right you need to have a complex understanding of the game. Which is why it may have confused you, since I am guessing you never tanked before...
/sigh
are we doing this again?
let's not.

yeah, demon armour is pretty essential for this to work because of the incoming healing bonus but we touched on the problem is would create for threat generation.
