I wasn't being sarcastic. I think that public executions would send a very real message. It would at least get people involved in politics and the justice system again. We have to much of an out of sight out of mind community.
If you don't know for sure it's sarcasm, don't immediately assume it is. I'm serious on occasion.
I thought sarcasm, because I think it's a ridiculous idea. Making execution public stimulates the appreciation of murder. Which would probably increase the number of public executions.

If I saw someone get offed by the justice system, I would definately think again before doing what he did. I would not feel a sense of 'appreciation of murder'.

Well, in the times execution was something public, it was considered entertainment. You don't need to see something happening to know it happened. Just make sure the papers announce that X is getting executed. The media has it's uses sometimes.

Not good enough. We are desensitied to consequences. And although it might be classified as 'entertainment' by some, that doesn't contradict the fact that it is a deterrant. Thoughts?

I still think that if an execution was made public one of tree things would happens:
Either it would fill up with protesters, and the family of the person affected by the one being executioned, who would be there to see revenge.
Or only the family of the person affected by the one being executioned would show up, who would be there to see revenge.
Or it would fill up with people going there to support it, and enjoy the punishment of a criminal.

Everyone in attendance would have a deeper apprciation for the law though... because all of a sudden, it would be
REAL
, and not some distant courtroom.

Almost dying doesn't change anything
. People will still be the flawed individuals that they are (at least in my case and the few that I have observed).
I have no idea why you said this besides your obvious need to say something you think it's cool because you saw it in a TV show. A great TV show though.

It's not about people dying, it's about people dying because they broke the law, so the law has come to tie the loose knot.
Also, how did you see someone die?

What you saw was an accident, what people will know about isn't an accident, it's something planed, judged and executed by the government.
Completely different.

Didn't really read the entire link you posted, was only really interested in seeing what were considered the "cons" of the act.
That being said, I take my severe misanthropy coupled with
the current world population
of approximately 6.8 billion people into account when I say that I am fully for the death penalty.
This isn't to say that I think we should go to a murder scene, see that someone just happens to be in the area, and outright execute them. There should be a typical trial, of course, and once the individual is deemed to be guilty beyond the shadow of a doubt, they should be executed.
And in respect to the following:
Capital punishment costs more than life without parole. Studies in the US show that capital cases, from arrest to execution, cost between $1 million and $7 million. A case resulting in life imprisonment costs around $500,000.
Kill them the same way they killed the individual. I can only assume that the death penalty would only be used in the event of (a) murder(s), so let the punishment fit the crime. If someone killed an individual via slit throat, return the favor. They should get the chance to see exactly what it was that they did to other(s) in their last moments.
TLDR: Yes. Capital punishment. Eye for an eye and all that. Do unto others.
