Okay, let me just put very simply what I want to do and how I play:
I am a Level 63 death knight. I do quests while staying in LFG for instances. I love being able to take on multiple mobs at a time. I want to be able to tank during instances, but be at least sort of care-free with self-heals when doing my quests (I love Blood Presence for that).
So, basically...
I want to tank instances
I want to take on 2-4 mobs at a time
I want blood presence to still be viable during PvE
As I understand it, I want to look at high armor, high stamina, and defense armor, and also parry/dodge.
What build do I need?

Honestly, to try and have a good dps build and tank build in 1 is not worth doing, you will gimp your self in either side, loose dps talents for tank or vis-versa. Save up the 1k gold and dual spec. That way you can have dedicated spec to both.

I don't need to have great DPS. I just need enough, which I think I can get with minimal points in any spec, to solo effectively.

Well since you mention AoE I'd suggest you go for either Frost or Unholy, blood is the tree with the least competitive aoe at the moment (but best self healing).
Personally I started off as blood, taking it nice and slow to learn the class, playing "safe" thanks to the abundance of self heals etc :>
Once I hit Northrend I respecced into Unholy, and wondered why I never did that from the first place :P IT was very fun to have a pet and to be able to aoe things down before you could say Limburger cheese
But you should pick a specialisation that you like above all, if you're into blood, go for it. It's aoe has been buffed a bit :) and the self healing is delicious
I'd reccomend you either look up Lynri's guide for a good frost build or an Unholy build down the lines of this:

Make sure to nail your rotations and you should have no problems :P
