Hi guys, in Naxx 10 man the other night I picked up the Charmed Cierge.
As dual spec my new spec is Elemental, I'am Enhancement, my raid leader said it would be good to use as an Elemental wep.
Everywhere I've looked the staff up suggests its more for healers or druids, so my question is..is this worth using as an Elemental Shammy or am I better of looking for a main hand wep with a shield in off hand?
Is it something an Elemental Shammy would use?
I'am very new to the spec so I really dont know.
Thanks for any help :)
there's no reason you couldn't use that as elemental. The only thing is, keep an eye out for a better main hand/shield combo as you can probably get more overall stats that way, just like for a mage having a dagger/offhand or a priest having a mace/offhand. you will find more stats from having a mace/shield combo but that staff isn't worthless by any means, and there's nothing saying a healer HAS to be the only one to use it.

You should NOT use it. Period.
The itemization sucks for ele shamans, this staff is obviously made for classes that benefit from spirit: priests (tho it lacks hit for spriests, but healers would love it), druids, maybe warlocks (if hit capped).
So so wrong. It's not about wether it's the perfect stats for shamans or not. It's about what you can get your hands on. So the guy does not have any spellpower weapon, you're saying he should just run around without any weapon at all just 'cause he found a staff with some spirit or mp/5 on it?
If it's an improvement and you're not screwing over anyone then use it. That's the only rule that you should concern yourself with.
I dunno why people just assume that you can just pick off the best items for them on a list and then magically aquire them. Having good items means aquireing them first.
That beeing said you should aim for something that focuses on your needed stats more but untill then, what else are you gonna equip?

Screwing others while taking items that can be easily replaced is selfish.

Oh? And what to become of the item then? Vendor trash? Come on...
If it's an upgrade, it's an upgrade regardless of the 'best' stats one can have.
In this particular case there was no upgrade for the healer, so the shaman taking it is perfectly fine.
How do people still not know simple principals like this?

I agree that if its an upgrade AND NO ONE ELSE NEEDS IT, then there's no reason why he shouldn't be able to use it.
During a Karazhan run Pre-WotLK (but after 3.0),
Light's Justice
dropped off Prince. As an newly spec'd Elemental shaman, I was currently still using
The Essence Focuser
left over from my Resto days. No one else wanted the mace, and it was clearly an upgrade for me. So since Spirit does absolutely nothing for a shaman, should I have just passed on it even though it had more spellpower and intellect than my current mace? Of course not.

It is not an ideal weapon for you, but go ahead and use it if no one else will. In almost all cases, shamans will benefit more from using a one-hand/shield combo. Staffs are not desiged with shaman use in mind, and almost all spellshields and most 1 handers are.
Similarly, a shield is better then just an offhand item, it will usually have better stats for a shaman, a ton of armor, and it can be enchanted with +22 intellect, whereas a normal offhand remains unenchanted with no additional armor given. (for anyone who discounts the importance of 7.5k armor, get hit by an add in a particularly hairy boss fight where the diffence between your respective armor meant if your raid would wipe.)

Those items are easy to get. They are also one-handed and can be used with

, something he should pick up after running some HCs.
I'd rather take the Ward of the Violet Citadel, it's got hit on it, and costs 10 less badges. The only downside is, it can't take the intellect enchant to shield, being an off-hand frill.
