Maybe the point is just that people don't read stickies to begin with, no matter how they are organised.
This is the issue right here. People who just created their Wowhead account 10 minutes ago and have 1 post. This post > The one asking the obvious question that's either been answered multiple times in the last week or is already confirmed/denied in the item/npc's comments. People who refuse to search and read will never see the stickies. They just won't. I kinda feel sorry for them.

I agree with both of you. Maybe the solution is for the forum mod to reply to these repeat threads with a link to the appropriate sticky and then lock the thread. I realize this is more work for the mods, but it may work. However, if you have someone with 1 or 2 posts doing this:
a) They may not come back to the site, which drives down revenue.
b) New users or non -sticky readers are gonna create these threads anyway. Then they get locked.
If the user population was more self-policing and replied to the thread with the appropriate sticky, then maybe the rest of the population would think: "New user = noob = not reading sticky. Sticky provided = no need to respond = thread dies".

Which is what we've been doing for the most part. Understand that some of us have some primitive forms of lives, and can't monitor all the forums 24/7. Really, us doing more work doesn't help.
This is actually the reason that those stickies were consolidated in the first place. The stickies are equally likely to be read in either case, but this way they don't clutter up the top of the forum as much.

On a side note and out of curiousity, how many 'new' wowhead users drop by, post once, and never come back?
More than I am willing to acknowledge...

Yeah, like helvorst said. I dont personally like the title giving the the stickies. "Helpful threads" is not enough. It should be named " Read before posting" or something like that.
