in all seriousness its not hard to push 2k dps. i can do 2.5k-2.8k with only the buffs from my talent tree. and as said before its really te small things that make the bigggest diffrence. perfect example of how little things amke a big diffrence. last week in my guilds weekly 25naxx run on patch i was pushing 3.7k dps. first time i ever really paid attetion to it but i figured that was good. during that week i changed maybe 3 of my gems to get more strength and the next time i did patch i was pushing 4.7k. and im in a mix of 10 and 25 naxx gear.
3 gems is not going to make a K of difference. More likely, with the 4.7k, you got a better run of crits.
Back when my hunter first hit 80 and was all in blues i started running VoA 10 man. I was cookie cutter speced, used the optimum recommended rotation, didnt get hassled with clouds/spikes/etc, and therefore had a stand and burn run at the boss. My final dps as reported by Recount was just over 2k.
Its simple to see how much dps a given class might hope for. Just determine how much each of your shots should do, and how many of those shots you will fire in an X minute fight. There you go, you have your theoretical dps. If you do well in a given fight, its more likely you just scored a lucky run of crits.

Some people just like to fail. I dont understand how they manage to do it but some people prefer sucking. Like level 80s who have been 80 for a while and have 0 achievements for any Northrend dungeon or raid. If you arent going to play then whats the point of even logging in. I have been in groups where Im at 3k DPS and the other 2 DPSers arent even breaking 1500. You seriously have to try to suck that hard.
Fail isn't really a fair word for people who have no interest in doing dungeons and still have fun playing the game. One of my friends has 1 outland and no northrend dungeon achievements (the 1 being something we two-manned a couple months ago). He just likes to level and do dailies. He's 77 now, when he gets bored he'll focus on some alts of his.
Another one of my friends is 80 and has done most dungeons though only a couple heroic that I pushed him through. He's content to do dailies, get rep from them, and maybe buy BoE gear on the auction house.
Point being: People actually have fun doing parts of the game others may find boring or pointless.
Though I suspect as far as progressing goes, because we're a small guild of friends, they're really just scared of getting their feet wet with groups of people they don't know. A normal person's ego can only take so much L2P noob and being called an ebayer before they retreat back into a comfort zone of leveling and dailies.

When he pays the monthly fee DOESN'T pay to spend his time on elitist jerks or on forums. He pays to PLAY. Is his dps sup-par? Yeah. But I don't sit there and point it out and make him feel bad for it. What would that accomplish? He would feel stupid / embarrassed. He's my friend. But now he's been thinking of raiding. But he won't because he's worried if his dps isn't "par" people will give him a hard time and no one who PAYS TO PLAY should have to deal with that.
....................
When you PAY for a service that allows you experience it ANY way you want... you should NEVER have to tolerate abuse because other people have "expectations".
Thats all fine and good, however he doesn't get to play with anyone he wants JUST because he pays his wow membership. As the saying goes, "You may pay $15 a month to play as you want, but our $360 a month thinks you play like an idiot".
You seem to forget that some people have certain standards. If you don't meet my standards, I won't waste my time playing with you. After all, I also am paying my membership, and if I don't want to group with you, I won't.
On the abuse part, sure, it's childinsh and immature to ridicule someone. A simple, "You aren't cutting it, so we are replacing you". is fine. There is no need to go out of your way to be cruel. If that player wants to improve, direct them to resources and let them fiogure it out. If they don't want to improve, that's fine too, but I won't be wasting my time playing with them.
