Weapons speed and specialization question

My rogue is nearing 80, and I really want to get it right and pull my weight. But there's a couple of things I don't quite understand that I was hoping you might explain to me.
-For mutilate, it was my understanding that fast/fast was the way to go, that 2x
Librarian's Paper Cutters
would outDPS slower, epic weapons. However, now I'm finding info that slow/fast is the way to go. Which is correct?
-And for combat, are 2 specializations no longer viable? Right now, I'm rocking sword/dagger, specced in both (I guess it doesn't matter much as long as I'm still lvling). For endgame, this is bad?
Answers much appreciated, will be rewarded with digital cookies. (::)
(Ninja edit, I spelt appreciated wrong. :<)

Slow main hand, fast offhand.
2 of the same weapon type is preferred, due to lightning reflexes.

from what i'm aware CQC and mace spec only gain when it is equiped in the MH slot.
sword can be proc'ed by MH and OH. so having a dagger/fist or mace in OH when something else is in MH is wasted talent points.
in regards to Mut, it use to be fast/fast but now poisons use a ppm mechanic slow in MH is loads better, and if you take master poisoner 2xslow would prob be slighty better due to the increase in Mut dmg

Thank you so much for your fast responses!
This helped a lot, seeing as i hace CQC and the dagger is in the OH... (cough, that's a waste >_>)
I'll respec and pick up another sword ASAP.
Or perhaps respec mut, since the speed confusion was what kept me from speccing it in the first place.

The point being made is mace/sword fist/sword prior to 3.1 gave the advantage of the off-hand sword specialisation procs producing extra mainhand swings. Resulted in dual spec being possible if not almost superior due to the optional non dps talents in combat tree being put to use boosting dps. Now lightening reflexes has changed there tends not to be much optional about the combat build so dual spec is dead.
