Attention!
I would like to know who got their shaman to 80 with this guide -- Doesnt matter what or when you started, I'm just curious... Could you leave a comment?
I used your guide to help level my shaman from 45-80. It was highly informative and it helped me quite a bit. Thanks for the excellent writeup.

Thanks for the guide, troll!
On the matter of enchants for BoA weapons, regardless of what you're using, I've found that
Fiery
shows up typically as #1 or #2 on my damaging attacks landed, and I don't even have WF yet. This has held true on my warrior on the Arcanite, my Paladin, and my rogue. It seems that Fiery procs more than Crusader, and it stays relevent and useful until 80. Oh, it's also cheaper. :)
My plan is to do 2x
McGowans
, each enchanted with Fiery and WF.
Crusader, as noted, is nice for the strength buff, but procs far less often than Fiery does, and the actual dps boost on a 3.0+ speed 2h weapon or a 2.6 1h weapon isn't enough to balance out, especially given that it's effects are near-zero after level 60.
Food for thought.

I think it's an excellent guide, but I disagree with a few points about your spec.
1. Elemental Warding is pointless and Call of Flame is a better choice. With maelstrom weapons and feral spirit, you don't need to worry about incoming damage, you'll be able to keep yourself up just fine without this.
2. Totems really help, and so do their associated talents. Ancestral Knowledge is not really worth a full 5 points, especially at the cost of Enhancing Totems.
3. Improved Shields is a better investment for a solo player than Static Shock. Static Shock isn't really that great while leveling because you can't effectively stack haste, thus you don't proc the effect very often. Improved Shields is great for a leveling enhancement shaman.
4. Shamanistic Focus is fantastic until you can get Improved Stormstrike, at which point it's overkill and I would recommend you spec out of it, unless you're actually experiencing mana shortages.
Anyway, these are just my observations. Thank you for your fantastic guide!

This is my own personal experience in levelling my shaman, but getting improved ghost wolf is a lot better at 15-16 as soon as you can put points into it.. true, you don't have ghost wolf at 15, but if it's maxxed out the moment you hit 16 then it dramatically reduces your downtime via travel for you to be able to instantly hit the button and be able to go.
The way I filled my tree was
15-16: Improved Ghost Wolf
17-19: Thundering Strikes
20: Shamanistic Rage
finish filling out Thundering Strikes from there, and then continue along the way.
someone may have already suggested this, but I didn't read through every page :D
btw.. this is just my 2c, and of course your mileage may very.. extremely well written guide, and i'm sure you've helped tons of people as well :)

Hey there,
Complete newb here..you stated the suggested majors as:
Major - Glyph of Lightning Shield
Major - Glyph of Stormstrike
Major - Glyph of Feral Spirit
And:
Optional: Glyph of Stoneclaw Totem -- Extremely useful addition to the shaman survivability, take it if you like to PvP, or just feel like you need some protection!
If I go with Stoneclaw which should i drop? I am on a PvP server and new so I think I might go that route. Thanks for the guide...from all the responses (yes I read all 5 pages) it is great...gratz!

Well I started ages ago and left - but just came back to wow this week due to their free week trial and thinking of coming back. When i left i had a lvl 40 tuaren shaman - in last 2 days got it up to 52. haha kind of funny cause even at that lvl im a complete noob - most of the questions i had though have pretty much been answered here :) so thanks a lot! Ièll try to follow your idea - although a few I already do:)
I just have a few questions from what Ive read so far.
- You say we should use the lightning shield all the time (part from when we switch between the two) but you don't haev the increased dmg from it on your talent tree(unless i read over it too fast :D ) if im right - how come you chose not to take it?
also u never mention using fire nova. i tend to use it as much as i can though it does cost a lot of mana. is it not worth using because of that?
and my last question - (this really shows im a total nub ;D) but the items u you post say lvl 1-80, how come?
Thanks again for the guide - and for any answers!

This looks like an excellent guide as I'm going to be starting a draenei shaman soon.
However, I noticed something kind of odd... The talent spec you linked is different than the spec you outlined. Notably, Ancestral Knowledge is maxed out on the linked spec while on the outlined spec it's only to 3/5 and Earth's Grasp is maxed out. There are a few other discrepancies.
With that said, it seems like the spec you outlined is the one to follow.

Very nice guide. I am leveling an orc shaman and have been reading lots of usefull stuff from here.
a few things i'd like to ask:
1 str = 1 ap?
Does strenght lose it's functionality at some point?
(in other words, did i waste alot of money enchanting crusader to my 2x McGowans? :-p )

I would never ever in my life spec out of SR, either for leveling or for raids. Here's why:
1. You can't take down +3 lvls elite mobs without it while leveling.
2. It's awesome to use when you know that there is lots of incoming damage.
3.
Boom

he said Shamanistic
FOCUS
, not
RAGE
.
Imp SS will grant you mana each time, while SFocus reduces the mana cost of Shocks only so I kind of agree. however at low gear levels, it still kind of helps to have both.
