WoW raiding, why so serious?

I think kladde hit it:
Whether you call it 'just a game' or not, once you group up with 24 other people you suddenly have responsibility towards more than just yourself
Casual players generally are not put in a position of responsibility, everything is done in their own time at their own pace (I not ripping on casual players at all, just stating what I see). This makes it hard for a lot of casual players to make the switch into raiding; I know, I had to go through the same thing.
The converse is true also. Now that I am a "hardcore" raider, I find it hard to enjoy the casual game when I'm, say, leveling an alt. I tend to turn VC runs into Sarth+3 runs.
"It's just a game." What does that really mean? IMO, when someone says that, it's just a condensed way of saying, "dude, I'm playing this game to relax, and you are not helping
me
."
That's the problem, there are 24 other "me's" in the raid, who are playing the game to have fun. By not doing you're part you are making it hard for the other members to have fun because they have to stress out making up for your mistakes.

Oh, and as for Vent, who gives a damn. You dont need it, you just need to know whats going on around you. My DPS usually takes a minor hit compared to what it could be, but Im also the guy who doesnt need to scream into vent about being killed by adds, or having boxed himself in on AoEs.
Skills > Gear > Tools
I was once like this. and with ulduar, i dont think we need vent for some bosses, but it really helps to know who has died, who gets shield wall, and role switches. alot more than typing it. Also, you dont need to scream in vent, god damn it. This is the typical casual comeback, and it gets old.
Oh wait, we were the first non- Sarth +3D guild to kill Ignis on our server.
not very impressive.

Not wasting other peoples time > Wasting peoples time.
qft
Just because you don't mind if Naxx takes 8 hours to do doesn't mean everyone else wants to waste their time like that.

I play this game pretty casually compared to a lot of people. I raid a few times a week for my playing time and do work. Most of my guild are rl friends and we used to raid pretty hardcore back in EQ1 and vanilla WoW.
I think you're confusing the terms "casual" and "bad or newb or plain terrible"

WoW is a MMORPG.
This means that what you think doesn't matter that much. If you get into a raid with 24 hardcore raiders that wanne do things quick. That putted time in their gear(both in enchants/gems and drops), working on their rotation etc. each and everyone of those 24 know what to do and do it easely.
Then mister casual commes along...and is suprised he's getting yelled at when he fails (this is only for contant failing, not once wich we al do, including me(running straight into a void fissure on KT is BAD :p)).
The biggest reaon for "failers" to whine is because there many people who are just like those first 24. Your easy to replace and they get their fast run with 25 same minded people.
There is no "I" in team wich is what a raid is.
On the question "why so serious?" Cause people like me wanne get things done. Killing a bos after a long time of trying feels better then a damn orgasm to say it that way. Wiping but progressing is fun, wiping til you almost smel the kil is what I play for. Increasing my DPS numbers fuels me and I'll do whatever it takes to get closer too that goal.
I don't play to do heroics or get my fishing to 425.
In the end we'll al have to accept that people look at this game diferently. you got the PvP'ers in their sandbox called "arena" with awsome clasbalance, you got the bad people in heroics, the casuals wich you find in every category, and the raiders who theocraft to get the most out of it.
What's your game?
not very impressive.
Being impressed by anything in WoW makes me chuckle.
I'm pretty sure most sentient beings, with a few firings of the synapses, can figure out how to hit their hotkeys in such a rotation that a group of 25 of them can get through their raids, one shot, two shots, or within a couple weeks. For most, it's a matter of raid comp, and time.
But seriously, let's keep the e-peen to a minimum and be honest. Nothing about WoW, or any MMO, should impress someone over the age of....what...like 12? As one of those "older" gamers, I find more impressive qualities in my cat, who just learned how to open and hide in our DVD cabinet....
Now, since this tirade of mine has already inspired a couple mouth-breathers to start typing TLDR....
Nothing wrong with being a casual player, OP. Best bet is to find a guild of other casual players, this way, you're not stepping on anyone's toes in those hardcore PuGs. That's the key to being a casual, steer clear of the hard-core players, let them have their fun, you have yours, but usually drama and silliness ensue when the two mix.
good luck.
So I 100% agree that nothing in this game is hard once you got it.
Isn't that one more reason to simply kick the failers and get sombody with an IQ over 50?
Failing on somthing hard is ok, failing on this realy makes me wonder how they do it.

I whole heartedly aggree, I was OT in VOA the other day and got kicked because I hadn't seen the new boss yet. I wsp the leader and he said people were demanding it. I justed laughed.
That's a stupid reason indeed, tanking some mobs is somthing anyone can do :p

If you think the WoW raiding attitude is rough, you should have played some other MMOs like Everquest. If you were responsible for a mistake that wiped the raid, you were not just kicked from the group but probably black listed from all raids for the entire server. Yes it was that serious.
Compared to WoW, raiding attitude is simply a joke. I've been in all ends of the spectrum with hardcore raiders to very casual raiders. I've been in 25 Naxx runs where the RL calls for a 15 min break after each boss (people left pretty quickly). If you're not happy with the raid you got into, well join or look for another next week. The people who kicked you probably didn't like your speed or aren't tolerant of your mistakes.
Honestly though, who would still want to be in a raid if one player kept pulling more and more adds or completely wasn't doing their job that either wiped the raid or made it much more difficult? Is it too unreasonable to get you kicked if you had no idea where to stand or go for the Thaddius fight? There's got to be a limit to some people's inability to follow direction. I'm guessing the OP didn't play many team sports, where it was just "ok" to make mistakes constantly and while your teammates looked the other way.

If you wanna chill and have a relaxing experience, maybe raiding isnt for you?
Believe it or not, there are small guilds of lazy casuals who thinks that they accomplished something huge when they managed to clear hc hol with their friends. or even karazhan with 3-4 lvl 80s and 3-4 69-79s. Even if 3 of them suck and 2 is at best mediocre they accept that cause they find it fun to play together.
Find that kind of people to play the game with, i think youll enjoy it, and let us(?) 1337 no-lifers yell at eachother for the slightest screw-up in our raids.
