Get 80 > get crafted stuff > do some bg's > get hatefull set/deadly offset.
Start reading up strategies and find yourself a partner.
If you and your partner are dedicated enough you can have fun in arena. Don't expect easy epics like in the old tbc days though.
Gearing up in pve is much easier and less time consuming.

For farming honor in BG, dont bother until your 80. You get a huge honor boost per match in the 80 bracket vs other brackets. If you want to work on Honor now, you can try doing wintergrasp (and its dailys); not sure if its avalible to you under 80, since i never tried that myself but if it is. WG is the best place to get honor. PvP is a great for the casual gamer, and since you don't have time for heavy raiding, is probably the best way to go. You won't gear up quickly but you will have tangible results (arena points and honor) even if you only play in short bursts.

It will take you a significant amount of time to grind the PvP gear needed to arena. 8-10 hours may not be long enough, considering that once you get enough rating you have to grind even MORE honor just to buy those items >.<. Unfortunately, endgame content in WoW often requires hobby, and not video game type hours.
Also, in terms of gearing up PvE > then PvP. You will get more gold, have easier access to high level weapons and offhands, and it is generally easier (for now) then arena. What I mean by this is that PvE has more 'options' for acquiring gear, PvP will only get you PvP gear, but PvEing can get you both PvP and PvE gear (though not quite as good PvP gear).
PvP and PvE items also do not mesh very well together though, a fully clad PvP priest will likely go OOM loooonnnnng before a PvE clad priest. By the same token, a priest in PvE gear will die instantly from critical strike damage. The very best PvP players also raid, using weapons and offhands from that for PvP, though season six has allowed for PvP weapons to be acquired much more easily then the previous season.
About your class: Priest disc healers are currently the most powerful healers in arena due to recent buffs they have recieved. You will need a good set of resilence gear (800+ resilence) and some experience at learning your class, but partners for 2v2 will come to your doorstep begging if you prove to be skilled. Shadow is currently useless in arena, so you will likely be healing should you decide to try it.
Gl with your priest, and make sure to have fun.

Everyone starts at zero arena rating in s6, and losing doesn't hurt your rating until your much higher so you have plenty of time to practice strategies now.
