a) They get pidgeonholed into healing
b) Being a melee DPS is very deadly. There are lots of whirlwinds, cleaves, and other AOEs. It's no fun dying.

Problem is, most pulls in raids are AOE pulls. Sure, if your target is starting to cast an AOE, you can easily get out.
If you're in a 10man, you'll probably have at least 3 melee up fighting the pack of mobs, plus yourself. Pulls are going to be 4-6 mobs, so that's at least 8 different models all in a very confined space. I don't care how good you think you are, you're not going to be able to move out of every whirlwind. Sure, maybe if your immediate target is casting it, you can get out. But you're not going to keep track of everything.
Whereas, if you're Elemental, you don't have to worry a single bit about Whirlwinds. Sure if there's a Blizzard or something, you can move out, but those things typically are pretty obvious, you'll see shards of ice hitting you, and they'll only do 100 or so DPS to you, whereas a Whirlwind is a quick 8k to your face.
You asked for my reason why they don't exist, I told you, and you seem to act as if I control the Shaman population.

i just find it too selfish to sacrifice a s$%^load of dps just to have a greater possibility to stay alive.
Check WWS reports. Elemental may not be top but it's a competitive spec.
Here's one
. 3 DPS shamans in that raid. Ele Shaman (Fush) is ahead of one of the Enh shamans (Geru).
Here's another one
. Cytokinesis (Ele) is ahead of Inanity (Enh).
Another one
. Both shammies in this raid are Elemental, one of them is #2 overall.
Not saying Ele is better than Enh, not saying Enh is better than Ele. I'm just trying to say that they're really not sacrificing DPS for being in the back of the raid instead of up in the front. This is true for most classes. A Mage does not do 10% less damage than a Rogue simply because he's a caster. A ret pally does not do 5% more damage than a boomkin simply because he's within 5 yards of the mob.
You're gonna find plenty of reports where Enh beats Ele, Ret beats Boomkin, Rogue beats mage. But you'll also find plenty with the reverse.
the simplest example is sarth.a nab gettin hit by wall will die either caster eiter melee.
its not a matter of skills being melee.
Of course. I do refer (in my second post) to Blizzards (thinking specifically of Sapphiron, but you can generalize it however you want). There are plenty of AOEs that target ranged AND melee. On top of that, there are AOEs that affect only melee. I can't think of any that just affect ranged.

Novak is right on the resto part. Most quality shammies go resto simply because shaman healing is so versatile nowadays. Pre-LK shamans went resto because they were so overpowered at raid healing that every raid wanted at least two.
I don't think anybody is questioning the viability of enh dps here, this is the shammy forums after all. Survivability is an issue because of our burst dps up front and lower survivability being mail wearers with limited dodge. It took me a long time to learn the fine line between timing my dps just right and dying (and I still get it wrong sometimes). Most buffs are provided by other classes as well now so raids take those that gaurantee the best chances of success.
In saying that though, I believe our forte is still Unleashed rage since most DKs are either unholy or they tank from my experience.

/agree with Slokov.
I'm tempted to go with Enh as my sub spec. Especially now after the last patch, would have a bit more (i say a bit more, we'll just have a bit) of PVP going on :)
infact, i will spec enh 2moz :D as u say, enh in PVP is rare, people just dont know how to cope with them!

I'm resto main spec. Got dual spec, decided to go enhance. Gearing wasn't too difficult. If there is no hunter in the group, I got the stuff. I'm intrigued to be able to run enhance in a guild run. I want to see how much those Imp Totems actually help. Problems of course, occur when positioning myself on boss battles. Completely different from resto to enhance. It will take a bit getting used to.
But I agree with the OP. Need more awesome Enhance Shaman in raids. Never hurts to have a diverse group.

To the OP, try a little harder to write meaningful, somewhat grammatically correct sentences.
Whether or not English is your first language, please, for the good of us all, try harder.
