Rather than stick them in exile for 30 years, or tattoo a letter on their face, why not just stick with attempting to rehabilitate them? Is it not better to save a life than destroy one further?
A 40 year old man rapes a 5 year old boy.
I say tattoo his face and send him to harsh prison for life.
You suggest enroll him in a senstivity course.
Give him a second try. If he screws up again, then he's not going to learn; he's a repeat offender. A rehabilitation is not a sensitivity course, stop attempting to mock it and propose something logical.
So... the law should be that if a man rapes two kids he gets tattooed and goes to prison for life? Is that acceptible to you?
And that still leads to two innocent people scarred for life.

Agreed. Half the debate here has the kids in mind... the other half has the criminals.
I don't understand the logic of the other half. "Well... just because he rapes a little kid doesn't mean he should.. .you know... go without TV"

Killing a child molester doesn't undo the damage. So either way, whatever you do, you're going to have at least one person who was raped.

My mom was hit by a drunk driver on the way to work quite a few years ago. Her head went through the wheel, she was screwed up. She had to have brain surgery, shes now brain damaged, she had to have all her teeth removed, etc etc. My mom had to go through lots of rehabilitation. She had to learn to walk and talk again, learn basic things..
Shes scarred for life, the guy only got a 10 year sentence. He recently got out, my mom is still brain damaged and unknown of most of the things she used to know.
Also, I do have to fight for the other side a bit. Prison is not a walk in the park, I'm sure. But its not near as hard as it should be.
I'm really sorry to hear that, and I feel he more than deserved that 10 year sentence. I still doubt he did so out of malice.
Thank you.
and yes he deserved more than that sentence.
I know he didn't do it out of malice, he was intoxicated.
But still something that shouldn't be taken lightly, especially since my mom had to go through all of that. She didn't even know who my dad and I were.

However the victim has peice of mind that they can not harm them, nor anyone else, ever again.

Sorry TheMediator... I am not responding to your posts anymore. If you'd like to leave a message, please do so after the tone...
But seriously... this thread has descended way way off topic and into obscurity. It is destined for lockage, and rightfully so.

For the record... I haven't yet heard any well thought out arguements against the legalization of cocaine.

I suppose there is that... but along those same lines, you could say have someone who committed battery, and then try to use that rational to try to justify attaching some extreme penalty to it. Our justice system is about trying to rehabilitate those who committed a crime, not for trying to exact revenge.

That's because your eyes are closed.

You know what? I could say the exact same thing about your argument:
"What? Crime? EXECUTE THEM ALL!@#$, a mistake? KILL THEM! Minor drug use? HANG THEM! He had a .9 alcohol blood level when the limit is .8 or so? HE DESERVES TO DIE!"
Incarcerating someone for 10 years with television and minor comodities still seems like a more level headed and reasonable punishment than anything you've suggested.
Your debate seems to be more "aaw pity and support the OFFENDERS rather than the victims."...wtf is that about?

Interesting. The difference being I'm NOT saying to execute everyone, and you ARE saying that prisoners deserve TV.
Edit: The only laws I propose have the sentences changed are:
Child rape
Rape
Murder
Political Corruption
These are the worst offenses possible, IMO.
