Healing while leveling

I've decided to level a priest. Main spec will be shadow of for faster leveling, but since with the dual spec thing, not having a healing offspec while leveling in Outlands and Northrend is a sin. I'm also going to be disco at lvl 80 so a bit of training is always welcome.
Now the question is: Is disc healing viable without Pennance? we get pennance at 70. Is holy much better/worse before pennance? And even after, any big difference?
Also about gearing...i think shadow leveling gear will be good enough for healing, is that wrong? Should i save stuff with spirit for more longevity?
Any answers and constructive criticism are welcome.
My lvl 80 is a death knight, if that helps in any way..

Disc is ofcourse viable without Penance, but Penance is fun, good, strong spell and you want it as quick asap. Disc speccing focus more on stats during lvling and not really on strong heals. It a personal prefference. Also a lot people seem to like dpsing with Disc for lvling reasons too.
So Disc -> Stats.
Holy -> Strong healing.
Both work well for healing. The main reason to choose holy for healing is greater heal. You will end up using that as Disc too because you need a strong heal and holy has already good Greater Heal talents in the lower tiers.
I'm not sure about shadow lvling gear, it was spirit when I lvled (ages ago) but now I guess "normal" gear will work too.
