Hi guys, My guild and I tried to do Thorim yesterday, but our result was cathastrophic, we wiped for 4h.
We choose to divided the groups in 3 corridor and 7 in Arena, I was in the arena group. My guildies were complaining that I died too many times in the arena cause of my Aggro, cause I was doing too many AoE. The thing is I wasnt using my AoE abilities at all. When I died, I died one shooted when the new swarms of adds jumped into the arena, is this normal?
I have a Question regarding the threat mechanics in this fight. When the new adds spaw, do they choose to attack the target closest to them or the one with most threat?
Thanks

i've never done the thorim fight, so keep in mind that i'm only going off of what i see. From the howto vid's i've watched, the melee appear to have some sort of aoe, and that's probably what they were talking about.
From what I understand about mob aggro, in the absence of threat, they will run to the nearest target. If it's the first group, and you're closest to the door, guess who they're going after. it's just like when you're out questing.. you walk too close to a "red" mob, and they're gonna come at you.. as a caster, you never wanna be in the thick of things. the tank for your side group should be right at the area where the mobs come running into the arena area and you should be at max distance.
I hope this helps out some.

Only the elites can oneshot you. But the commoners interrupt spellcasting very often, you can find yourself with all 3 schools counterspelled. If you are in the arena dps the elites, they will be tanked. Melee can kill the commoners.
7 in the arena should really really do the trick. 6 would be more fitted. We go 5/5 most, to start the hard mode.

Perhaps you should switch tactics. This is how we do it in 25 man:
Mages, warlocks and and other offensive casters enter the tunnel and rush forward as fast as possible. Mages can sleep adds that can be left in the tunnel. After Thorim has been engaged a tank has to pick them up when they enter the arena from the tunnel before they are killed. While the tunnel is being rushed the remaining raid back in the arena is standing in a tight group in the middle. AoE healing will be very efficient and all DPS should use AoE to kill the adds. Casters will be affected by the increased cast time debuff, but all offensive casters are in the tunnel. Adds will die fast and healing will be efficient with the raid standing in a small area. Also the lightning from the orbs should not be able to reach the middle of the arena.
After many wipes we tried this and felt pretty stupid since suddenly the encounter leading up to the engagement of Thorim was very easy (at least for us).
