Hi! Im a FG / Ember lock with about 4.5k dps (41/30 aint dead!)
In the raid yesterday i had some aggro problems. I was doing around the double of the tanks aggro (I had vigiliance and
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=17917
)
I usally have no problems with aggro but i really had yesterday. I used my SoulShatter when i had 200k aggro which was 4k below pull aggro. But i was at 94 % threat when i reached 250.
Do you have some suggestions for lowering threat?
The tank was a warrior with better gear than me!
Rotation:
Pet, Immo, CoA, Corr, Incinerate spam, Inci and soulfire below 35 % and Drain soul below 25 %

The tank needs to learn to play then
this.
all tanks have an innate x2.07 multiplier on their threat before the addition of particular skills which have higher threat. you have a 1:1 multiplier and a portion of your threat actually coming from your pet.
this would give you a TPS of 3.5-4k and a tank in a raid situation should have at least 5-6k TPS.
if your tank can't pull that TPS then they've concentrated too little on threat stats which is misunderstanding their role in the group. basically, until they can do at least 5k TPS they have no business tanking a raid group.

Your Tank may have messed up his rotation or just /fails at tanking. even so it is a DPSer's job to wach their threat.
If the tank is putting out 3k TPS, a DPSer need to put out 2.99k DPS.
If the fight last forever and the healer gose OOM. The tank will die and you can run out!
It will be the Tanks falt for not puting out more TPS to let the DPS burn the boss down before the healer gose OOM.
After the wipe get a new tank.
BUT, don't over DPS to kill the boss faster. If DPS pulls it is the DPS's falt!.

don't confuse dps and tps. although tps is 1:1 for warlocks, on a trash pull the warlock's tps will be spread over all the targets. a dpser's tps will be lower per target on trash than on bosses but their overall dps will be higher due to aoe.

True,
On my Unholy DK tank. I love Locks!
I have grate AoE threat and there AoE dps is a good mach.
SoC spam = mobs die, mobs die = less damage, less damage = bigger pulls, bigger = faster runs. faster runs = happy guild.
it is just not the same with warriors though.

BTW, OP... DO NOT EVER USE DRAIN SOUL AS FG/EMBER. It will provide MUCH lower DPS than SF Weaving.
As for threat, find a tank that knows how to play his role.

The tank wasn't doing enough TPS.
I've actually tried taking aggro off one of my tanks when I used to raid hardcore. It was a simple test to see whether he was a good tank. I did my full rotation, and threw in some searing pains. I was doing a hell of alot of threat, regardless, he (warrior) kept patchy off me the entire time.
If I was able to do my normal dps rotation (5.3k dps), and not pull threat (on any fight, not just patchy, I take movement fights into consideration, given dps is a bit lower, I still push 4.5k+), then it's the tank's problem, not yours.
You guys remember the days where we actually had to wait for the tank to get aggro? I lol'd at those days.
Hydross sucked.

Not exactly true.
Ranged dps can do up to 30% more treat than the tank w/o pulling aggro, which means that if the tank was doing 3k TPS, a ranged dps could do 3.89k TPS w/o pulling off the tank.
Yes, yes, But it you are having trouble with aggro it is risky. even more so if the boss needs to be moved.
at any rate, look at what most people say when we are talking about aggro. It is always "if you pull aggro" aka "
you
pull aggro". we do not say "the tank lost aggro". Why? because you control your DPS thus if you pull aggro.
Now it is the tanks job to put out enough threat to drop the boss in time. Yet, the tank only fails at this when there is a wipe.
Did you wipe do to the tank dragging out the fight? if not then cut back on your DPS.

You did 150k threat in the amount of time the tank did 50k threat?
What boss was this on? Was it some gimmicky fight like Hodir?

If he is still using Drain Soul as FG/Ember spec, I hope for the love of the gods that nobody is attempting to carry him through Ulduar =|
