Here's my 2 cents.
You should definitely consider a 2nd prot build, perhaps one for more damage or block value for trash. I think tankspot has a thread for that, a 2nd prot spec that does decent damage. Its got a ton of points in Arms though, I forgot what the spec looks like.
That being said, I believe Arms is easier to gear if you haven't done much dpsing before. It's up to your personal preference though, I dislike arms for raiding and thus I'm fury for my 2nd spec. The main question is do you have a solid 2H Axe or Polearm? That would make the transition to arms much easier.
It comes down to this. Fury provides these essential raid buffs:
Rampage and a better Battle / Commanding shouts through
Commanding Presence. If you have a feral druid, they provide essentially the same thing with LotP. Arms provides
Blood Frenzy and is easier to gear for with Weapon Mastery.
I normally roll as a tank, but I like that I can join a pug as Fury and do decent damage. When I'm with my guild and switching to dps for certain fights in Naxx though, I end up on 2ndary warrior duties as well. I think you'll end up with the same issues, if your MT is a druid and not have the prot warrior abilities. You can apply TC as well as demo shout and Sunder Armors on the bosses to boost everyone else's damage. If an OT is not needed, I like being able to help out in dps as well, even though I mainly apply the non damaging warrior specific abilities. You won't top the charts, but you'll help out the rest of your raid and that sounds like what you want to do.
For instance, losing some GCD's and making sure there's 5 stacks of sunder armor on Thaddius may ensure your group prevails over the enrage timer. If I opt'ed just to dps then I would've just boosted my own dps, not the entire melee raid's dps. Sometimes you have to look out for the raid vs your own meters.

I believe Lorkin is referring to the Unrelenting Assault build. (tankspot video on the subject:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOM8zFsEYrQ) FYI the video is pre 3.1 but that doesn't affect UA arguments all that much (if at all).
This an example of the build (may not be accurate, play with at your leisure):
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#LAMIzf00VbrM0MZZVctrx0zid:bAozmMI would go into more detail about UA but Ciderhelm does a far better job then I could.
Of the other two specs Arms is more similar to Prot since it uses a priority system as opposed to a rotation.
EDIT: And a quick edit to say that most Arms builds also take
Commanding Presence on the way to
Improved Execute.

I've done some testing on the "arms build" Unrelenting Assault on my
blog.
Some of it is taken from tankspot.com's review, but feel free to check it out :D
