Solo - Mass Effect 2
Multi-console - Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Multi-PC - Left 4 Dead 2
I'd also like to say that for a game that spawned from a mod,
Killing Floor
is amusing to mess around with, especially if you have friends with low-end PC's :P
(Holy Necro! Although still relevant)

It's too broad. Many games were ridiculous in terms of redefining a genre. To name a few big "blimps" on the game-changing scale:
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Modern Warfare 2 (like it or not, it's the staple of a successful multi-player shooter)
World of Warcraft (a truly successful MMO)
and many others that I can't think of off the top of my head. Lack of sleep or something.

Goldeneye 64 came first.
I really like the remake for Goldeneye as well. They put a lot of love into it.

I haven't played it myself (could never get a copy )= )
I hear it used Goldeneye's engine though. Is that correct?

The Kingdom Heart series.
The Final Fantasy series.
The WildARMS series(that more then anything else shows the evolution of a video game universe).

Resident Evil series.
The Digimon/Pokemon games.
Mario.
Warcraft universe.
Starcraft universe.
Diablo universe.
Devil May Cry series.
Star Ocean series.

(Laptop Gun: automatic weapon which can be deployed as a sentry and attacks any enemies that go near it).
Hm, reminds me of the Sentinel from NightFire. It's a suitcase you set down and it attacks any enemies. You can also control it if you want to get headshots, otherwise it's backup/distraction.
In my opinion, it's far superior.
I'll always love GoldenEye more by virtue of nostalgia.
Pardon the delays in my responses, my internet is #$%^e tonight.
/shrug. Everyone has RL. I just happen to be free tonight.

There are many games that were truly awesome, and that come to my mind when i try to remember a good game. The BioWare RPGs, Fallout New Vegas, Assassins Creeds, Bioshocks, Red Dead Redemption, the GTA franchise... but there is one game that kinda stands out for me.
Aaand that is Pokémon games. This franchise has been going on for so many years now... it is still extremely popular and sells very well... but most importantly... when you consider how much the basis, the story or the game has changed since the very first release? Actually, it has only changed slightly every time. There is just something about this imaginary world where you can level up and fight with numerous colorful beats, that it keeps attracting players even though it has fundamentally always been a simple "get eight badges, beat elite 4, gotta catch them all".

Indeedy, it was originally created as a sequel to Goldeneye but I think MGM didn't give it the green light. In my opinion, it's far superior. I spent months of my childhood on the combat simulator, it was the first time I'd ever seen variable difficulty bots in a video game and the entertainment value never wavered. Definitely get a hold of it if you can, even now it's one of my favourite games and it's always a hit when we have a LAN party.
You'll definitely notice the similarities when you play it, recreated (and expanded) maps, most of the original weapons are there too and some which blew my mind (Laptop Gun: automatic weapon which can be deployed as a sentry and attacks any enemies that go near it).
I was heartbroken when the sequel for the 360 came out, it didn't do the original justice.

I haven't tried the 360 arcade version, but it sounds pretty good. It's at the top of my list for games to buy when I can afford another console.
Perfect dark was a very good game too for n64 :)
