So i'm hoping this thread doesn't get locked straight off by the admin becasue i'm of an opinion which doesn't seem to coincide with theirs...
Basically its about the fact that all of the lovely stickies in the paladin forum (and other forums, but meh paladin one is the one i'm interested in) have been put into another thread, the "Helpful Threads - Read before posting".
Now don't get me wrong i know the number of "stickies" was getting quite big and there was quite a few threads up there. But it seems as a result, this forum is getting even more of the type of question which can be answered in the stickies. I'm not saying its hard to click into another link to find all the stickies, its more of an irritation or tedium, possibly just another stumbling block for new comers, rather than a hardship.
I get it makes the forum look nicer/cleaner or what-have-you but in terms of functionality...
Thoughts?

doh', so i guess that means this wont be changing at all then...
Even so, that thread didnt really answer anything... the problem still exists. And i don;t really agree that the threads are just as likely to be read in either case. If the stickiers were posted in say a different colour in addition to the little symbols next to them and given more "informative" titles then perhaps there would be less of the posts which irritate so many of the more more frequent forum visitors.

Was the solution from that thread.

ta for the link :) but i'm a lil confused, the point there was against them being labelled "Helpful Threads" as oposed to stickies.... and yet they are still called "helpful threads".
To highlight this, its not uncommon for people to reply with "look in the stickies"... well if you are new to the forum, and someone tells you to look in the stickies, how are you gonna know where they are?
Renaming that section
Stickies
seemed to be just, well... overlooked. From helvorst's post down, i agree with it all. And none of it seems to have been answered.
Feel like i'm trying to flog a dead horse a lil here...

Well, in an ideal world, people who read the thread called "read first" before they post.
I understand your concern with it being named something else, but it seems rather trivial.
Is there a solution that you were thinking of?

When you put it like that, i have to agree, it does indeed seem rather trivial...
The actual words used in the thread title are of lesser importance than their intended impact. I was more focused on actually trying to get people attention drawn to the stickies so the forum can get rid of a lot of the "rate my spec" style questions. ealadin stickies are awesome, they answer pretty much everything you could hope for... but the simple fact is that people wont read all of the threads in the "read before posting thread", not only because we don;t live in an ideal world, but also because there are a fair few threads there.
As for a suggestion, i'm in two minds, one says, well the forums are going to be perpetually flooded with these posts and redirecting people to that thread is going to be something which is always needed, but the other route would suggest something which would actually prevent the promlem, rather than simply cure it. Prevention > cure imo...
As for how to acomplish this... well thats not an easy task, but i do think that putting them in a "helpful threads" section was a step in the wrong direction. They need to be more accesible to a greater range of players, the beginners up to those well versed. However i'm against renaming the threads... the authors have all respectively put in a lot of effort to create these guides and its their "right" to have them called whatever they see fit. But as a new forum poster, it can evidently be a bit confusing... having roamed around here for long enough to understand the lingo its hard to say what new players find hard to get/why they dont read the stickies... not necessarily to make a perfect world, but there must seriously be a reason, other than lazyiness, that people post questions before looking around for an answer that is availible.
I don't exactly know what the best way to tackle the issue is, but fact of the matter is, there are daily threads on here asking about spec/gemming/basic stuff, and almost all of the answers to these questions are posted in the stickies... my aim is to make people actually want to read the stickies before posting. I see regular users getting increasingly frustrated and pointing people in the direction of stickies/filters etc... surely this would indicate that an adequate solution hasn't been found.

It's called bad parenting.
The people that dont do any research are raised thinking they're the most perfect snowflake in the world and have a secret crush on their mother thinking that no one will be able to love them but her.
I say blame the parents not the stupid posts.
I will continue to do as i have so far.
A moronic post deserves a moronic reply.
If i'm in a good mood i'll just redirect them to the stickies that can answer their questions.

I think the solution is a G15 with a hotkey that pastes the link to stickies and as soon as a new thread appears everyone rushes to be the first to post the link seeing as nearly every possible question outside of general chatter and theorycrafting (which have their own forums) can be answered in the stickies. Then again this isn't the hardest of games, i mean hell i would vouch that half the people who have finished all the current content would have atleast cleared naxx while blowing 3 times the legal limit.
