I've been wondering for a while, would it be better to go with 5/5 swords or 5/5 CQC. Both seem decent to me, but i've been enjoying swords for a while, but i've been looking into it, with a dagger in OH. im more likely to proc on Combat Potency. Also with the increase on crit strike, it will help with my Glyph of sinister strike. It's just been on my mind, plz respond

Depends on what weapons you have. To be sure, spreadsheet it

I've been thinking about it. With Naxx weapons, I think CQC is better than swords because of webbed death being 1.4 speed, and that with an extra 5% critical strike chance, you will be getting a good amount more combo points from the SS glyph.
However I think in Ulduar, Swords might pull up even or come out ahead because of
Rune-Etched Nightblade
. Even though it's doesn't have the dps of Golem Shard Sticker, its speed in conjunction with the extra sword attack procs will make it the perfect weapon for combat potency.
EDIT: but when I spreadsheet it, swords lose even with the nightblade... I guess CQC is the way to go.

that said, if the itemization was identical, Swords > Maces > CQC

that said, if the itemization was identical, Swords > Maces > CQC
Ok, so I just spreadsheeted them both again but with identical itemization in mind.
For swords, I used MH Serilas (178.8 dps, 2.6 speed) and OH nightblade (163.2 dps, 1.4 speed).
For CQC, I used MH Insanity's Grip (178.8 dps, 2.6 speed) and OH Kingsbane (162.9 dps, 1.4 speed).
CQC ends up beating Swords by 30 dps on average. Which is about 0.4% of the overall dps.
In short, it's ridiculously even when using approximately equal itemization.
EDIT:
Actually, with equal itemization it goes: Maces > CQC > Swords
But with the current best items you can get in Ulduar, it's: CQC > Maces > Swords.

Boottspurr, I said "Identical".
Insanity's Grip =/= Serilas
Kingsbane =/= Rune-Etched Nightblade.

That is very true.
I will now spreadsheet it with identical made up weapons.
Results
With identical made up weapons:
Maces = 7344 dps
CQC = 7299 dps
Swords = 7255 dps
edit: and with no buffs, it's:
Maces = 3561
CQC = 3533
Swords = 3499

>_<
My intention was maces > swords > CQC, but that is still wrong.
Mind you, I didn't test it in any way, as I blindly believed that 5% proc of extra melee attack > 5% crit, as it was that was in TBC iirc (didn't test it there either).
Thanks for correcting
EDIT: this was my

Hey, no problem.
I actually always wanted to know this too, but never got around to spreadsheeting it. Now we know =)

Interesting to note:
for 15/51/5, it's Maces>CQC>Swords.
for 18/51/2, it's Maces>Swords>CQC.
That's all for identical made up weapons.
But again, for real-life in-game weapons, CQC has the best.

Can you elaborate on why swords>CQC with the 18/51/2 build, or are you just going off of a spreadsheet? Thanks in advance...
Spreadsheet, but it makes sense when you think about it.
The bonus that CQC gives you is both extra combo points, and more damage due to critical strikes (critical strikes that do more than twice the normal attack damage due to talents).
Sword spec gives you extra attacks with the swords.
So basically, extra sword attacks means that there are more chances for poisons to proc. Therefore, it makes sense that swords do a little better in 18/51/2 rather than 15/51/5 because of the extra poison damage from Vile Poisons.
Also, the bonus that CQC gives with regards to extra combo points is hampered slightly in 18/51/2 because there are only 2 points in relentless strikes - that means less energy from finishers that are used with the extra combo points.
In 18/51/2, all three specs (maces, cqc, and swords) are closer together dps wise than 15/51/5.
They're separated by 20-30 dps each rather than 40-50.
