A good video card for running WoW, among other things.

In advance: I figured this might be useful to other players, so WoW general seemed right. If not, my bad.
So, I'm looking to get a new desktop computer. Nothing too fancy, just good enough to run wow well, and perhaps some TF2 or such. The only issue is, I can't seem to make heads or tails of what makes a good video/graphics card. Anyone think they can give me some pointers in that department?

Well you will want the higher end graphics card obviously, the newest ones they have out are the 250, 260 and 280 I think, however the old ones like the 9800, 8800, 7500 etc will work good. You will also want at least 256mb on board ram for your graphics card if not 512mb.
Now a quick explanation. The first number (I.e 7, 8 & 9) are the genration (Please correct me if i'm wrong of the the names/terms I will be using might not be exact but the basic knowledge remains true). And the second number (I.e 800, 700, 600) is like how big the card is.
So a 9800 is better then a 8800 but a 7800 is bigger then the 8500 even though the 8500 is newer.
Obviously bigger means better in this situation but make sure the second number is large also. (Kinda like a 1997 v8 vs. a 1998 v6, the 1997 v8 is older but has the 2 extra cylinders therefore is larger and faster.)
Hope that helped some, I know it probably is kinda running you in circles. But that kinda (I hope) explains a bit about the generations and what your looking at. There is also another type of card, (Radeon if i'm right) that uses diffrent names, I dont have a clue what their generation/versions are, I just stick with the nvidia.
If your planning on building your desktop youself thats fine but before you order I would go do to your local computer store. (The one where the guy your talking to at the counter is the guy who is fixing the computers in the back) and have him help you can give you suggestions, its much easier for him to help you face to face and he knows whats best for value and quality.

Wow is more processor intensive. Get a new processor instead.

Cheaper the better, so I'd say $650 at the very most, around $500-$550 preferred.
We're upgrading from laptops, so something I can upgrade. Also, although this is on a different note, if you know anywhere that will allow us to make payments instead of the entire price upfront, that's kind of required at the moment.

I would think that you can get a computer that can play wow full settings for under $800.
I got a duel core, 1gb ddr3 and the 250 gts 512m ram and I play wow full setting and dont get below 25 fps in any raid. (Even 25 ony welp aoe part.) That computer I built up over time but I dont think if you where to buy it all at once would cost more then $800.
(Yes before you ask I AM planning to get more ram I just intern at a computer shop so I can only get parts when I got credit and they got extra stuff in stock)
Like I said before though the best way to get accustomed with computers and what your options are is just go talk with your local computer shop imo. Thats how I started learning about computers was just hanging around there, and crusing on newegg, and howstuffworks.com :P, The internetz is at your feet and I guarantee you can find anything you want on the internet.
