If you don't want to reroll, you might try a different spec, like feral. Otherwise, yes, you might reroll to something vastly different.
You mentioned that you were questing... try getting into a group and doing some instances for a change of pace or do some battlegrounds. Anything to break up the leveling grind. :)
I get burned out on a regular basis, so I have a couple toons sitting on the side, generally on seperate servers to play until I'm ready to go back to my main (a warrior). In fact, I've been playing my druid recently, but I'm ready to work on leveling up to 80 now. lol

Well no matter what, do not delete your toon.
I am a strong believer that this game starts at level 80. So your level 45 is only half baked. I don't know why you can't just create any toon at level 55 right now as you can with dk's, they should have made it like that for all toons.
Anyway, if you're tired of boomkin, you can try going feral. Since you're not even 70 yet, don't worry about gear, just respec, and start clawing stuff.
I don't recommend going healing, since it's going to take for ever to level.
You can also just pick up another toon and start at level 1. Each new class you play gets you new insight into the game. You will only become a better player if you play multiple toons and roles (healer/tank/dps). You may even pick a toon you know you won't like, so that you'll play for a week on it, and get back to your druid.
There's one more roll, besides healer/tank/dps. It's AH toon, you can try that :) Yet there's one more role actually, currently only avaiable to warriors. You stand in SW and sell gold for $$$. it's apparently a very popular spec for warriors, but you may get banned. Only warriors can do it, because you know - you need a shield.

First, nice anywherenotes. That AH money selling warriors was funny. Even made a friend laugh that doesnt even play wow.
Next, I would say do what I do. I have all 10 toon slots filled on my main server, I have my main, and main alts. Then there are those other toons (ex. shammy, lock, rogue, mage) that are nice to play just never really been able to get into them. I keep them around for those "WTF do I do, SO BORED" times. You won't level fast, but hey if your haveing fun leveling doesn't matter, right? And yes the end game is really were most of the fun comes in, not to mention the achievments have opened up a whole new way to look at the game. You could try so of those, ambassador title can be fun to get if you take your time and read the quest (low level quest are also fun when you 1shot everything).
Just some ideas for ya.

I am not sure how fast you level but for me, I cannot imagine it taking more then 2 weeks to get to 45ish playing casually.
I see 4 options
You have 2 friends IRL who play as well? I would start another character and do recruit a friend (with one of those friends) with an entirely different class, perhaps priest? enhancement shaman? idk its up to you.
Change specs try feral and maybe tank.
Get a paid transfer to another server, check this website
http://www.warcraftrealms.com/realmstats.php
and pick a high pop server that is of your liking (pvp, pve, rp, rppvp)
Start over entirely on the new server and see if your friends will roll an alt on there

what about the other options? like re-spec? or transfer/new server start-over?

As a druid, I would definitely change your spec before I decided to abandon the character. For example, a feral druid really is a completely different play style. You may find that you like it more. That would also help you identify an possible alternative class (rogue? warrior?).

Is it really the class you're bored with, or just the fact that you're stuck leveling?
For me personally, 40-50 are the worst levels. They just seem to go by so slow, and even though I've done it several times already, I'm still always unsure where to go next. Once I push through to level 50 though, all is well again.
If this is the case, I'd recommend picking up one of the questing addons if you haven't already - Questhelper or Carbonite. You still have to find and pick up the quests. It just seems a lot easier to let the mod do the "thinking" and tell me where to go when I'm in one of those moods though.
The feral suggestion has already been made, so I'll second (or fourth or fifth?) that.

I think I will have to agree with the people that say re-roll or get a paid character transfer perhaps to your old realm, perhaps to a brand new one. I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet or not, but maybe take a break from WoW for a week or two (shock, I know) and when you come back you might feel better about levelling your druid, I myself am levelling one at the minute, also as a laser chicken, and I got stuck through 40-50, they're the worst levels, hated them on my warrior too, I'm currently 54 and just taking a break from the game, letting myself get...I think the word would be psyched, I'm not sure since it's American xD
Or you could just try to continue levelling him, I agree that the game really starts at end game (I only speak for 70 end-game, not at 80 just yet) and that it's definitely the most fun part of the game, the levelling is just the painfully boring bit (for me anyway) in between the first few fun levels and the last and the most fun in the game. But whatever you decide to do, don't take away the other options that have been suggested here, they're all very good choices, just do what you feel is right.
Oh and are you on EU or US?

Maybe post on a few realm forums on the Officials? See if you like the people, try to find yourself a nice, helpful guild that will give you the encouragement and support you need to get to 80. Transfer your druid onto there if you like the sound of a realm, after making a character or two that you think you might want to play too on that realm? Like I said before, just make sure not to delete any characters as you might regret it later, never know when you'll get fed up of your Druid. Oh and, Warlocks are less squishy than mages, or so I'm told, I die all the time on mine >.< Good luck, hope you make the right choice for yourself :-)

I wouldn't suggest just transferring blindly to a new server. Low levels are just about the same no matter where you go, in regards to finding people to quest or instance with. If anything, make new characters on them to check them out before paying to move.
Your best bet? Find a guild. Friends to chat and play with are what keep you coming back for more. I see "leveling guilds" advertising in the cities fairly often, they might be worth checking out.
If you're in the market for a less squishy caster, have you tried elemental shaman yet? (Sorry if this has already been mentioned, I didn't see it.) Leather armor to start, mail a little later, and a shield from the beginning. There is a little bit of downtime early on, but it gets better. Elemental isn't the most efficient leveling spec, but it's entirely doable.
Try not to get too discouraged, and I hope you find what you're looking for. :)
