I just started this today (I already had 700 valor points) and I have done some dailies since. Even though my weekly valor points has gone up the log for this achievement still says 0/6000. Why haven't the valor points I have earned since starting this achievement counted towards it?

It does say in the description dailies but maybe it means random daily dungeons and raids?

If you are referring to tracking the quest then it will only track if you have completed the quest or not. If you want to track your progress, then you should track the achievement
A Test of Valor
. It's found in the Mists of Pandaria Quest tab, I believe.

like Gontier said, A test of Valor will be tracked through the achievement. the quest it self wont go up till you get the 6000 needed.
you should be aware that it only counts valor from the moment you start it.
so for example if your 510/1000 that week and you start it. you can only collect 490 valor that week for the achievement/quest. cause of this most ppl take 7 weeks for the quest.
