Well, do they gather the nodes-icon (in lack of better word
:/
) server- or client-side?

You can skin the nodes, I know, because I've seen addons do that. So, you can replace the graphics. However, the only way that would work is if those nodes actually had a different "kind" but were both pointing to the same image resource.
IDK.
Why do you want tracking on while you're gathering?

You might want to specify that one
:D
Took me 3 reads to actually understand that you weren't being retarded

I figured it was comprehensible that I meant, "why do you want a tracking other than your gathering profession's tracking active while you're gathering."
And gosh, so many less letters
:)

Gathering nodes and neutral targets do actually use "different" icons (they're just identical by default).
Here's a little something I fixed up, which alters the node icon. I hope I didn't make it too fancy :P

It makes the change to the default Minimap frame, so I'm not sure if it works with minimap addons.
edit: It appears that stablemasters still show up as resource node icons, instead of a horseshoe/magnet/whatever. But I reckon them standing out too isn't that bad a thing :P
