sorry gore but laelisa does have the right idea here. no point in this thread is getting put across very well so misunderstandings are taking over.
first of all, please read

DoTs are slow damage with an underpowered nuke. this leads to low dps on trash but excellent damage on bosses where you can employ a full rotation. in this case 'damage' and 'dps' are interchangeable words.
the only way affliction locks would keep up back in the tBC days was to DoT every tanked target while mages and destro locks could only nuke one at a time. things have changed a little in that trash is almost always AoEd these days... in fact most groups i'm in don't even mark targets or maybe only mark a skull to kill first.
all things being equal, if there is a disparity it will be that destro has higher dps but affliction has more overall damage. that disparity may be a little out dated now though.
gore, i think your problem here is that you're still believing the nonsense from the other thread. the issue there was trash/boss, someone doing terrible damage on bosses and killing their dps but making up for it by doing huge damage on the easy trash. that was NOT reflective of the norm in any way that's worth consideration.

at it's simplest, you cast corruption then nothing happens for 3 seconds. after three seconds it ticks for, say, 1k. at that point your dps is 333. in that same 3 seconds a destro lock could throw out an untalented SB for 3k and have 1000dps.
assume that everyone waits for the tank to get agro etc. what you have is your aff lock starting early and ramping up the damage very slowly. they can't even compete with others' dps until they've got all those DoTs stacked and ticking away and it takes a lot of time to regain the very low dps from the start of the fight.
typically an affliction lock will spend more of their time actively casting damage spells at lower dps to achieve the same damage output as a direct damage class.
