I've searched the forum and only found a four years old thread, so .. anyone knows if it is still possible to change your Alchemy specialization for gold (like in TBC)?
Or do I have to unlearn my current and do the spec. quest again?

I actually hadn't changed my Alchemy Specialization since Wrath, so I had to look it up myself.
This comment by Propecia sums it up nicely:
The process for changing alchemy specs has changed!
You no longer have to visit any of the npcs in BC, it can all be done in your home city.
- First, to unlearn your current spec there is a button on your Professions tab in your spellbook that says "Unlearn this specialization."
- Second, you return to your alchemy trainer and accept the appropriate quest for the new spec. They are: Elixir Master, Potion Master, and Transmutation Master. Complete the quest and you earn the new specialization.
Thankfully they made this change, but the only thing worse than the old method of flying to BC locations is flying there for no reason. Please vote this up so people can find the info easily.

You could never just change for gold in Burning Crusade. There was an amount of gold to drop your current spec, but you still had to run the quest for the new specialization.
You still have to drop your current spec, but now it can be done in home cities as opposed the guy in Shat and there is a quest accompanying the new spec.

Actually back in BC, you only needed to complete one Specialization quest. If you wanted to change specialization, all you needed to do was to shell out some gold. No need to do the quest for your new Specialization.
I can still remember guildies talking about how easy some quests are compared to others. If I recall correctly, it wasn't uncommon to complete the Potion Specialization and then unlearn and pick the one you liked. (Mainly to avoid the Primal Might x 5 from Transmute)

really? well then i stand corrected. i always though you had to redo another quest-line once you ditched a specialization
As did I. I still swear I remember having to gather the mats for the new spec, but Google and various boards say otherwise.
