- Only need 6% hit in dungeons, taking any more than that is actually a DPS loss until you get to raids (at which point you need 17%). If you are only doing dungeons you are
over
the hit cap and should lose some. You may want to have two sets for now, a dungeon set and a raiding set.
- If armory is working correctly, you don't have anything enchanted, that's REALLY bad. Weapon enchant, leg spellthread, head, shoulders, etc are huge... most slots have an enchant, you need to get all of that done.
- Your spec is a bit PvPish. You want Veiled Shadows and that 2nd point in S&P to get those extra shadowfiends (even ignoring the mana, shadowfiend is our best dps cooldown). Drop Psychic Scream, Silence and Psychic Horror.
- As for your rotation, on trash try mind spiking the main target after dotting the others with VT. On bosses your rotation looks ok, just pay attention to your shadow orbs and make sure shadow power is up when it's time to reapply dots.

Concerning the hit cap, yes, the latest simcrafts show that it is less valuable than int (haste or crit is debatable depending on the simcraft). However, that is a machine that makes decisions immediately. A player will typically already be thinking of his next spell when he is casting VT and is ready to cast it. If you aren't hit capped you have to:
1) Turn off WoW's new spell queuing feature (which itself is a dps increase if you have any latency at all)
2) Think very fast, every millisecond it takes you to realize if the spell landed or not is a dps decrease
or 3) Cast the spell you were planning on casting anyway and recast your dot later
Even more importantly than reaction time, a good shadowpriest will have their next 2 or 3 optimal spells already in mind and you can't have RNG messing that up. Consider you need to recast VT soon and empowered shadows is about to fall off. You think "I need to cast MB to get emp shadows back up, then cast VT right after when there is less than 1.5 seconds left on it." If MB misses, you don't have emp shadows up when you recast VT (huge dps loss), if VT misses you clip the dot (another dps loss).
tldr: No, it's not imperative that you are 100% hit capped before you step foot into your first raid. But yes, hit is still your most valuable stat until you are capped.

Disagree, drop improved mind blast to get silence (and most importantly, an interrupt) is cracking idea for heroics and normal dungeons. Most places needs mechanics interrupted. Take it for now.

Duggra, hit cap, whilst important is NOT your priority, SPriests on EJ have recorded higher DPS with hit as low as 8% in raids *where the hitcap is 17%*
So long as you are fast in DoT reapplication etc if they miss you will see better DPS coming from Haste/Crit
In terms of ENchants you want Intellect where availible (e.g.: cape), else Haste > Crit > Mastery > Spirit/Hit

An interrupt on a 45 sec cooldown is almost worthless in heroics. Unfortunately we have to rely on classes that have interrupts with those 10 second or lower cooldowns for several bosses.
As for hit, obviously it's possible to get higher dps without hit, but you won't be able to pull it off consistently. I've done a BH in my dungeon set at 6% hit and didn't miss a single dot or MB, and my dps was the highest it's ever been in BH. However what's more common doing raid bosses under the hit cap is *not* having the stars align, and missing MB when you need it for emp shadows, missing dots so they clip, etc... those times you'll find your dps is much lower.
As I said, hit capped isn't an absolute requirement for doing a raid boss, but it is if you want to be consistently competitive.

Couldn't disagree more. It's been the difference between downing a boss and wiping/rage quitting tanks and healers, waiting for 10 mins for another.
Granted, it's a long CD, however you can use it on all kinds of trash and when that other person with a shorter CD dies during a boss fight (happens way too often, i actually feel sorry for melee).
Considering the total uselessness for Improved Mind Blast in PvE (my dps has stayed exactly the same or gone up in cases of using Mind Spike once or twice more for the CD, Might change after patch, but doubtful), SIlence is a damn good choice for anyone still doing heroics.
