If you had a hunter with you, you shouldnt of lost aggro within the first few seconds (mis-direct ftw) some hunter do it, some dont. Doing a heroic isnt entirely up to the tank and healer anymore. I can run any heroic and do an outstanding job, IF the dps is up to par, and healer too. But i can run Nexus (heroic) and if the dps isnt pulling at least 1k dps, then it all falls apart for some reason!
If your doing good in a normal situation, then keep doing what your doing. If there are pacs of 4 mobs, then I like to do challenging roar as soon as i charge in, that gurantees 6 seconds of nothing comming off of me, that should be plenty to get 20k threat, hard to top from any dps....
If your having trouble getting swipe to hit all the targets then jump through the mobs and turn around, they reposition themselves. If your loosing aggro to AE, then walk backwards with the mobs while your attacking, it'll pull the mobs out of the AE, and gives you more time to threat it up (this i dont do, as i dont like %^&*ing off the dps ;) ) but make sure you tank with the keyboard, dont clicky, keep your other hand on the mouse, if a mob does get away move your mouse and make your bear turn 90* so you can see the mob out of the corner of your eye, and growl. you donthave to be looking directly at the mob, just a 180* radius. do the same if 2 mobs run off you, but growl one, and charge the other, bash for the stun, and swipe them both, or maul them (god threat) and they should be locked on you... at that point tank the mobs RIGHT THERE, if the dps is doing their job the mobs you left behind should be dead by the time they make it to you guys, if not then swipe/mangly/maul them up they'll die soon enough. If your healer is keeping you alive good enough, then dont bother with DEMO roar, it'll just waist a GCD which could've been used for a mangle, or swipe. and lastly dont FFF mobs to you, unless you need LoS, Charge in, (this is the best advice! IMO) When you charge in, you have plenty of time to grab aggro, because the dps has to run in range to start attacking... this gives you free aggro!
I hope this all helps, as these are the simple tools i use to tank well, I've gotten great a many complements on not loosing aggro, and doing a great job all around. Any more questions ill answer them :) forums FTW

aoe tanking isnt that difficult. the post above suggested using your o s h i t taunt but i save that for o s h i t moments :P. basicaly i set up with a glyph of maul (i prefer maul to every other druid talent for threat gen its like 7-10k threat when mangle is hit before maul goes off). you also have your berserk + mangle situations and then swipe. what i like to do is make sure everything is in front of me and hit maul + mangle then spam swipe, tab target maul + mangle spam some more swipe. you will learn to loosen your wrist up a bit with a mouse ( i find that trac ball mouse is the best I.E. the logitech g5 gaming mouse) you will learn to flip the camera bout, and learn to make charge your friend for mobs that escape. also, tell your dps to hold the @#$% on for a few seconds. i hate the retards in wow who think they can balls to the wall dps right on a fairie fire pull....those ppl all should diaf. anyway practice makes perfect, and if a dps leaves your grp f him cuz dps are a dime a dozen.

another thing to keep in mind is that growl has quite a range on it now, so you may be able to just growl them right back to you.

^ not sure how you were taking what I was saying... I've ran heroics where dps was around 2k, which is great! And i've had the bad heroics where the dps struggles with 1k dps. Its sad sometimes, but what I was referring to was if the dps is struggling at 1k dps, then the fights last longer, the healer starts running OoM quicker, causing me to burn CD's like crazy if needed, and generally it just doesnt go well.
I run anywhere from 1400-1900 dps as a tank, depending on what classes are there (shammy/pally in group really help!)... If you want to freak some dps'ers out, The first pull in the instance (if its a 3 mob pull) charge up enrage, when you start charging in cast beserk, then key up mangle/maul until the 12 seconds is up, then swip/maul. I've gotten around 3k dps by that, and the dps is like "WTF?" I simply say "it'll go down big time"
