Are death knights better for tanking or dps?

I am lvl 75 right now and i have been blood for leveling but last night all the replies from looking for group were "are you tank" so i respecced went and pugged azjol nerub and we actually got through it even though it was all our first time goiing through. When i went back to leveling i soon found that my dps dropped by nearly 200! and i was not gaining any health regen from blood spec and so i was bandaging for the first time on my DK.

Now here's the kicker I am all about raids and instances that is what i play for so what is more effective end-game tank or damage?

He keeps coming up on top in 25 mans with over 3k dps on boss fights.

I'm a DK tank, and not going to show my gear, because ... well it seriously stinks as yesterday I died on 25man Archie after 3 hits without a heal in between :( 7k (stump), 14k, 11k = death for my 30k buffed dk :(
But that guy did huge numbers on his lock in BC as well, so he's just a good player.

thanks guys for the help. But another add-on to that as of yet i am new to my realm and i am not in a raid guild so what do yoiu think most guilds would take.
