Since it works in the background, I'd say a blue post would have to explain it. Whether or not such a post exists, I have no idea.

I am trying to find a resource online that explains everything about the rating system behind the actual arena games (e.g. Team1 wins XX points, Team2 loses YY points, Matchmaking rating = ?, not to be confused with points won to buy things, which I'm not looking for) along with the change to start arena team ratings at 0 instead of 1500 and how early games work differently.
My search so far hasn't been very successful:
WoW homepage -> Game -> ...(Upcoming Content... Player Versus Player) -_-
WoWWiki -> Arena PvP system is outdated... :(
WoW forums -> Arenas -> ugh, nothing explained in stickies, horrible searches
perhaps there really isn't a place with all this knowledge in one place?
The numbers used to get your MMR, Team Ranking, and Personal Rank are not listed anywere to my knowledge. They are blizzards internal numbers or some such non-sense.
I will say that your MMR is what dertermines who you will go up against.
You will start the season with a 0 rating and will get points as you play games.
I will also say that you 'should' NOT lose any Team/Personal rank until you are at or above a 1500 rating.
If I am wrong about any of this info please correct me (don't want to be givn out the bad info).
I lost about 3 or 4 rating when I was at ~900 rating.

All that stuff is kept secret by Blizzard for whatever reason. I can tell you this though, you will gain alot of points if you win and you well below your MMR. As your team rating get closer to your MMR you will gain less and less points for each win.
The reason for this, is because when good players form a new team, they don't want them hanging around in the low brackets for too long destroying every team they face. Those types of teams willl typically gain 96 points per win (max you can gain for a single battle) until their team rating gets closer to their MMR.
