Linmarion glowed red when Mary took his hand, and just hoped that the lights could hide it. When they reached the dance, he slipped a rose like the one in his breast-pocket into her hair. He felt the necklace in his pocket. He'd give it to her later.

"Thanks," Mary blushed, feeling the flower in her hair. "Would y-you like to dance?" she asked, having entered the building.

"Yes, very much." he said. She was far more lovely than when she was in her apron. "Listen... I've got you something." he said, reaching into his pocket and taking out a small jeweled box. He handed it to Mary. "Open it."

Mary carefully took the box. "W-What is it?" she asked before opening it. "Oh... Oh... By the Light! My word... It's beautiful," she exclaimed, holding her hand over her mouth. "I couldn't possibly... how much did you pay for this? I have to pay you back..."
