Bartender "problem"

Hi,
I currently use bartender to, well, modify my action bars and keybindings.
At the moment, I only have my "important" abilities bound to my keyboard or mouse. Stuff like my shouts, or rarely used things aren't.
Half of my keybindings use shift as a modifier (shift+d for example is one of my most used abilities).
Bartender lets you move locked icons around by using the shift key and dragging the icon to its new spot or "throwing it away".
That means, in the heat of battle, I sometimes tend to "throw away" that rarely used ability that I happened to want to use, or drag it to another spot on accident (which in turn might let me activate it by using a keybinding in my normal rotation or whatever...)
Is there any way to change bartender's using shift to be able to drag locked icons around? (I couldn't find it in bartender or in the normal keybinding stuff.. )
/thank
/wave

For you to move a spell you have to click in and drag it, you argue that you use keybindings. Keybindings is something you use to reduce the amounts of clicks. So, you shouldn't even be clicking with keybinds.

You could always use another modifier.
I
KNEW
someone was going to suggest that ;-)
Yeah, of course I could, but I would like to see that as the last course of action, and if it is possible to configure bartender (or the wow client if thats the responsible party) to accept another key, I would rather do that.

Hm, thank you for that bit of knowledge ;-)
I know what a keybinding is, and what they are used for. I however, do not think that, in order to use keybindíngs, EVERY SINGLE ability must be bound to a key.
For example, battle and commanding shout have, when glyphed, a 6 minute duration. Intimidating shout also has a longer cooldown, and limited usage in raids (faction champions or "emergencys"). My warlock's Fel Armor lasts 30 min, as does Righteous Fury on my paladin (he is holy - how often does he need to use it? but it does actually happen). I really do not see the neccessity to bind those keys to my keyboard or mouse simply due to the frequency that I am required to use them.
Binding the skills needed to maintain my rotation however, is much more important.
If my "hybrid" method of using keybindings is "the way to go" or not is debatable, and a matter of personal preference. Binding all of my keys to my KB / mouse is not really the solution I was looking for either.

Dont tell me you have almost every key in reach bounded. That should be impossible. I'd say: keybind everything you might use more then 50 times. I mean you got 1-6, assuming hand size, F1-F6, QERTFGZXCV, the buttons left of 1 (§), numpad for some rarely used things such as mounts, consumables or such.

I didn't say that. I said that
I don't want to do that
, simply because I don't use all the abilities all the time.
Heck, I even click on my buff food.. Not that I need that in combat or anything (a flask can be taken in combat though or a certain pot, etc.), but still, some abilities / macros / items only need to be used rarely, and I will only use them rarely.
I know that I have enough keys, enough modifiers, etc. pp.
My question wasn't how you think I should play the game (I do believe that I am not the poorest player, and am quite competative), but if the addon I am using can be configured to use another key to do that what it does.

Ah, cool thanks... even though that is not a permanent solution, it is one that I can live with.
So that is something that is defined by the game, and not an addon specific "feature", right? I'll look around in the config files to see if I can define that somewhere.
Thanks for the help!
EDIT: I just tested it, and it stays after restarts, etc. so that is exactly what i was looking for :)

I wasnt giving him tips on what to keybind. But if he going to use it "in the heat of the battle" then he might aswell keybind it. But I do belive I lost my pretty little red line somewhere in the previous posts.

What I'd like to know is, how do I disable that stupid "windows key" that just happens to be right in the middle of all 3 modifiers that I use on a regular basis, and invariably minimizes WOW right in the middle of battle.

You could buy a, think its, Logitech G18 keyboard. It disables the button while playing =P

Could you set up a windows script to change the registry settings, start WoW, and then change the registry settings back when WoW is closed? I play WoW through Wine on my Linux box and have to do something like this to adjust some keypress repeat settings in X each time I play WoW . . . otherwise WoW interprets holding down the W-key as pressing the W-key repeatedly rather than press and hold. Makes my character stutter across the screen when running.
well, you definately could set up a script to change the value before starting wow (IF changing that doesnt require a reboot).. im guessing you could have the script pause till wow ends and then revert the key.. either that or a simple script that changes the value to the opposite of what it is. so yeah, i think its possible, at least i dont see why that shouldnt work..

Well, you should be able to edit the registry from the command line and then just put the whole thing into a Windows batch file to load WoW.
exactly what i meant... i have never tested a batch file to do something on program exit though. and the batch file will only work if no reboot is required

You could export a registry file that had the change in it, then export one without the change and just load the nonchanged version after exiting WOW.
Just remember to update both versions whenever you install a new program or piece of hardware or you'll mess up your registry.
Alternately, you could make an entry for the variable that makes no changes at all to the way the keyboard operates (All zeros? I think?) and export just THAT key in both states.
