Beast-tamer's Shoulders?

While in Hyjal Summit last night, my brother received a pair of the
Beast-tamer's Shoulders
on his Death Knight, and was wondering if the bonus provided by the shoulders would work with his ghoul pet he gets through speccing Unholy. Thanks for any responses in advance!

No, it was more of an achievement run than for gear (Three fourths of us were 80) and there weren't any Hunters or Shaman who could use the upgrade... so it went out to other DPS'es, and my brother happened to receive it.
I only asked because there wasn't any word of it on the item's page, and even after my brother tried to talk to a Game Master about it, they said they could not give out any game hints.
