Yeah, the racials aren't going to make up for skill if you're a terrible player. But if you want the ultimate edge, I would say Human is the best race for the Rogue class. If you you don't care about a small edge, then looks is all you have, and that's always personal preference.

i won't go human.. they have such a boring look, there is nothing fancy about them
i'd go nelf or gnome if i were you.. night elf because they look cool. gnome to be hated and to be first attacked by horde ^^

Dumbest thing I have either seen anyone say - Looks over Racial...hey in that case you should get your mum to reroll from a dumb troll to a pretty look NE - Don't ever EVER go as NE Rogue - None of their racials are useful - Rogues for Alli are either Gnome or Human
Gnome - Escape Artist and cause they are hard to lock on
Human - Cause of Rep and Stealth detect
the other reason to choose both races is so you can *!@# off "TheAlchemisttt" and make them look ugly but still kick his dumb NE loving ass
Horde have a lot more choice in terms of good/great rogue races
BloodElf - I would reroll for BE rogue for these reasons
- Enchanting Improved (helps a little)
- Arcane Tourment and Mana Tap (Silence and get Energy back great for mage kills)
- and they look %^&*ing awesome (I agree with dumb as "TheAlchemisttt" on this one but thats cause they are pretty dam good)
Undead - Will of the Forsaken - FTW
- Cannibalize FTW as well
They look evil as hell too!
Orcs - 15% Stun resist (WOOP WOOP!)
- That Rage thingy (+AP = +Dmg = Faster death for enemy)
The male rogues look like fat kids creepying down the stairs to steal cake when they are in stealth!
Trolls - Regen during combat (FTW)
- Beserk (faster pow pow) AWESOME

It's actually the best way to decide your race. There's no sense in picking a race for its racials alone if you hate the way it looks.
Before you start attacking the contributions of others, you might want to consider the quality of your own. You've only made three posts here and you already look like an ass.

For horde: Orcs or Undead for PVP. Orcs or Trolls for PVE.
Can't say much for Alliance, except if I was to roll one for alliance I'd pick Gnome or Dwarves, probably Dwarves for stoneform to cleanse that rend before you vanish :).

or any atk power trinket is a big burst of damage for PVP and PVE (btw both of which can be activated at the same time for a combined 642 atk power for 15 sec). Sure you get 50% less healing, but as rogues, not many healers wants to be your healbot anyway.
Troll's racial are arguably more effective for PVE.
Blood elf's Arcane Torrent+Mana Tap can be a great complementary tool going up against casters in PVP.
Human's Sword Specialization can be beneficial by combining it with Weapon Expertise for a whooping 15 expertise points.

Humans also have a racial that is about identical to the PvP trinket... I use it instead of the medalion of the Alliance to break CC's in Arena and in BGs since it is on the same GCD as the trinket and I get more dps with using the two PvE trinkets I have... I'm surprised no one has mentioned this racial.
