The above poster is correct about threat, but BV is now one of the best mitigation stats there are due to no DR. I take BV wherever I can get it and just gem enchant the rest.

Super nub question here, but is there a place on the character UI where it tells your block value, or anywhere else for that matter. Otherwise, are you simply supposed to add things up according to how much strength you have +block value on gear+ talents? Thanks.

Wow, what a necro.
Anyway, block mitigation is factored after armor. So in your example, block would reduce the damage from 5,000 to 4,000.
That doesn't make it uniformly great though.
