There are leather wearers who need the spirit. They didn't put spirit on BoA leather
for twinks
. Twinks weren't, as far as I gather, an intentional design choice, but something that turned out to happen. The only time I think they did something with twinks specifically in mind was when they put XP in BGs and made the xp-off thing.
If you don't like the item, get one that's better. If what you've got is BiS, what do you care if there's spirit on it?

So you're upset that you have to make a choice between more DPS or more survival? Be glad you can even have that choice. Besides, there's probably a blue within reach for twinking that is better than the heirloom anyways.
