Hi there, and welcome!
When it comes to healing, your skill is just as dependant as your gear. Preemptive healing, timing, ability to cope with screwups and so on. Those skills come as you advance in instances and such, and by saying you've healed before, you should be fine. As far as I know, you depend very little on gear if you really know how to deal with your class. I have an oomkin in full greens (with a couple of blues) and still out-DPS full epic hunters.
Moral of story is, at least try a couple of instances before locking yourself out by saying you're not geared. If you're feeling that you go OoM to quickly, or your heals can't match up with the damage your tank gets or anything else, at least research a little on your techniques before you call it. My holy paladin also went bouncing around in heroics with just blues gathered from 70-80 through instancing and quests (I was holy from 60-80). I admit that I didn't think I was prepared for heroics, but I really kicked ass and had a good feeling afterwards. I'd say healing in heroics now, compared to tBC heroics, is a totally different story. Trash doesn't hit that hard and typical boss behaviors has gone from tank'n'spank to partydamage, more or less. As shamans are more capable of healing the party as a whole, rather than tossing heals on one or two targets (as paladins does), you're good to go.
Wish you luck! :)
