The difference between casual and hardcore isn't time put into game. It's the priority the game takes in your life.
This is the best statement I have ever heard regarding Casual vs. Hardcore.
I play this game anywhere from 1 to 8 hours a day. Generally it's a nice medium, 2-4, sometimes on raid days I'll play extra, or I may not even play at all on some days. I have been in raiding guilds in both WoW Classic and BC and have seen endgame content up to Sunwell, but I would never let WoW interfere with my life. I never log on until I've finished all my schoolwork/housework and I always make sure to let my guild know if I can't make a raid for whatever reason; perhaps to spend more time with my family, study for a final, or go out with friends.
I do consider myself a Casual player. Semi-hardcore at most. Yet I've played this game since 2006 and have stuck with my Warrior ever since. I don't think of myself as a better player than people who can only play once in awhile, nor do I consider those who play much more than I do to be better than I am. I know this game and my class inside out and I'm willing to bet that I'm just as good as any Warrior in an endgame guild that has progressed much farther then I have; in terms of skill of course, naturally their gear will be much better than mine.
It's all a matter of perspective, really, but don't be quick to judge; that one Troll Shaman in your guild who just hit 80 and has only been to one raid may be a better player than that other Tauren Shaman who's been to ten.

I play a lot of WoW myself, but have never gotten to end game because I enjoy levelling and questing and getting myself deep into the lore of the game more than just reaching the top, getting the same equipment every high level has and going around bragging about it. It's cool, and I respect people who do that. They want to become better in-game, but that's it, there's nothing more to it.
I may play an hour a day or up to 14 hours, get a lot of lowbie toons, or just 1 level 80, whatever I feel like playing, but I'll never put personal stuff after WoW. If I did, I'd consider myself a failure in RL and, let's be honest, there's absolutely no reason to justify yourself for that.
