It's always a little daunting starting out on a new server, but it's not that bad.
First thing I usually do is pick up mining. Even if you don't intend to keep it, selling a few stacks of copper ore early on can give you a decent chunk of starting change. It only gets better if you keep going. After that, normal questing should give you more than enough. And don't even think about buying things in the AH, that'll eat through your money in a heartbeat.
Don't be the level 80 guy riding around on a level 30 ground mount...
