Changing Sound files

So I need a little help with this.
I've recently been playing classic and have missed the old melee sounds in retail.
I found this addon -
https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/classicmeleesounds
that doesn't work anymore however it does contain all the relevant sound files, does anyone know how I could get this to work in retail?
Also I'd like the "classic" way the damage numbers pop up on the target, retail mutes white damage but I like the classic emphasis.

Why doesn't it work? It is not an addon at all; it is a collection of sound files and you need to follow the instructions which are the same for Classic and Retail. The path to the game is a little different from the presented instructions, but that's it. The new paths are:
World of Warcraft\_classic_\Sound\
World of Warcraft\_retail_\Sound\
HOW TO INSTALL; this AddOn is not installed like regular ones
Extract the downloaded file and you should get a folder named "Sound". Place this in your default WoW directory and launch the game.
Already have a Sound folder? Merge it with this one, or make sure that all the .ogg files have the correct paths, for instance: .../World of Warcraft/Sound/Item/Weapons/Dagger/"some_dagger_file.ogg".
HOW TO UNINSTALL
To uninstall the AddOn simply delete all related files. If you use other sound modification AddOns, only delete the subfolder "Weapons". If you want to restore specific sounds, just delete the associated sound files.

After doing some research, it seems 8.2 broke the ability to replace sound files, now we can only mute them with addons like "mute annoying wow sounds" and "mutesoundfile"
8.2 introduced some measures to make it harder for people to datamine.
