Client STILL Stalling
Return to board index
After hours in these forums and trying every tip and trick I could find, the WoWHead client
refuses to upload it's data for me. My file has grown to almost 2 megs now and it's getting very frustrating to say the least.
I have reinstalled the client three different times, made 100% sure I have the most updated version, purged all my cache files, double and triple-checked my virus software to make sure it allows the WoWHead client...both on "All Ports" and specifically Port 80...nothing has worked.
I'm running Windows XP on an AMD 3200+ Sempron 1.8 gHz with 4 Gigs of RAM.
What am I missing?
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
Unfortunately, westrock2000, the client is still doing the same thing. I've removed and reinstalled it three times since my original posting and (taking your advice) I let it sit on my desktop for almost 4 days on several different occasions, but all that happened was (one time) I came downstairs before work to see that the "Connection to the server" had been lost.
Beyond that, nothing I have tried has worked...and I can't say I'm not frustrated. I just went through and re-worked my virus protection settings for the client, so I'm hoping that solves the problem.
If anyone else has any thoughts, please feel free to share...I'm at a loss!
Well...almost a year later and my client still won't upload. ::laugh::
I'm trying to find the humor in this, but I'm just....not seeing it.
Running version 1.4.5 (See above posts for more details.)
ANY suggestions or help would be appreciated.
What anti-virus software? Can you look into the log of the software and see if it's choking on something but not informing you?
Try adding gzip.exe to the list of exclusions (should be someplace in your wowhead application data folder). I can't recall the exact path for XP off the top of my head at the moment, but it should be something like C:\Documents and Settings\ApplicationData\Wowhead\Wowhead Client\gzip.exe
That's more or less what I was going to suggest. What antivirus software are you running?
What about for Win7? Because I'm having the exact same problem described here, the client hangs at 3% uploaded, and I can't find the gzip.exe file mentioned.
Running AVG Free as my anti-virus.
Can you try disabling AVG LinkScanner and let me know if that fixes the issue?
Yep, that fixed it. Specifically, it's the active surf-shield that is blocking it.
