I think we should have a sticky titled, "New to WoW? Here Are Some Recommendations".

What are some reccomendations on classes?

That would depend on what you want. What's your style? Melee or ranged? Direct damage or DoTs? Et cetera.

All classes have some disadvantages. As for gear dependency, Warriors and Hunters are more gear-dependent than others.

Before you even think of what classes you're going to play, get an Authenticator.

my two cents on coming back to wow.

1. If you where a dps, before, don't play one of those this time around.
2. if you where healz before, don't play one of those this time around.
3. if you wher a tank before, don't olay one of those this time around.

it will get boring fast if you just repeat the same class that made you quit in the first place.

try something new, and a different role. might keep you interested.

Tank - Warrior, I'm having a blast leveling mine. In dungeons, I usually do 50% of the damage, when the DPS are good! Though single target, I'm on par with the first or second dps. During BGs, I'm usually in the top 3-5 people for kills/damage. With Victory Rush, and all kinds of survival CDs, you can crank out some big numbers and a few kills before you die. One time I had like 4 people on me and I killed 2 of them before I was killed. (Lvl 53)
Healer - Haven't really place a healer in a while, but I did have a bit of experience with WotLK Resto Druid, and current(4.0) Disc Priest, which is pretty fun Smite Healing/DPSing. (Priest Lvl 42)
Melee - I had a WotLK Feral Druid, which was fun, not sure anymore though, haven't tried. But if I were to start a new melee character, it would probably be an Enhance Shaman.
Range - I love my Mage, since TBC, it will always be a favorite. Though Boomkin is really fun too. I lost interest in my hunter after 3.0.8 (No I was not a BM hunter, although I was in TBC, I switched to Surv when we hit T5 content)

My first 3 high level characters, were ranged dps. I took my 3rd ranged dps(Boomkin) and turned him into a Tank/Healer/Melee/Range by the end of Wotlk. So I could do any role I felt like doing. I think Pallies/Druids/Shamans offer the most versatile choice of what you want to do.
