Taken care of, the painful way.
Y'know, if people would just

Was there something wrong with linking to posts and videos on another site? I uprated a few of those the other day...

There is a difference between linking to a useful site and spamming a useful site. One is to offer genuine help, the other is just to generate traffic.

Hrm, well, if each post on each boss was made linking to the appropriate video on his site, and each video seems to be made with care and time spent to video it, add annotations and explain a lot of useful information ...
I know it looked spammy because the posts were made so quickly, but I used several of those links the other day. The Tankspot forums aren't covered in adds and the discussion is civil and useful.
I know why you guys thought this, but I think this wasn't that kind of case.

Mmhmm. The recent Naxx guides recently released by TankSpot are actually fairly good. I myself picked a couple of (working) strategies from there.
I think posting in the manner that person did was a bad idea - a little more creativity would've been nice, so it doesn't look like raw advertising. But the guides are valid after all...

I agree, and if he wants to come to us and discuss we'll definitely come to an agreement. But this is the kind of thing people have to ask for permission for, you can't just stamp links all over someone else's site without asking. :P

Is that clear, though? If I made a series of videos not-for-profit, before I saw this thread, I would've seriously considered linking to them everywhere it was relevant on this site. Tankspot isn't making anything other than ad-based revenue from impressions (and possibly not even that, if they don't have an impression-base deal). Is there something that says that I can't post external links on this site? Isn't the content
supposed
to be user driven?

Well, if Wowhead actually frowned upon linking to other WoW-related sites, it would be gimping their usefulness as an information resource. Programmers, of all people, will understand the will to centralize and lower duplication -- if wowwiki already did it well, no reason to duplicate it. Either way, I don't remember ever reading that you couldn't link to bosskillers or tankspot or wowwiki or any of those sites. If there is an implicit policy, it needs to be more plain.
