Constant Disconnects in World of Warcraft
Return to board index
I've recently been being disconnected or dropped in multiple online games, but this is mostly aimed at World of Warcraft, It can be fine for hours or even days but it often comes to a point where I can't stay online for more then 10 seconds.
The thing is, it works fine if I connect directly to the modem with out the router, but I have the same problem with 3 different routers including a rather expensive new one I just got.
- The Problem persists on multiple differnt computers with differnt OS and anti viruses
- I've forwarded all the necessary ports
- I've updated all the routers firmware
- I've adjusted my networking card
- I've power cycled the router many times
So my main question is if its posible that theirs something wrong with my connection or modem even though they work fine with out any of the routers?
I've been having this problem for while and have spent a lot of time trying to figure it out, so and suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Is it just games or do you lose internet connectivity completely? What is your in-game ping? If you run an internet speed test, what is your ping? Some speed tests will give you a quality of service rating which tells you how good your signal is, google quality of service test and run one to see how your connection rates. Its usually used to test if you have a reliable enough signal for VOIP...which brings another question, do you have VOIP such as Vonage or through your cable company?
Are all your computers wired or wireless? When the signal drops, do you lose wireless and wired connectivity? Have you tried using different cables to connect from the modem to the router? Is there anyone else using your network? If so, what are they doing on it--streaming video, playing on an xbox. What kind of service do you have--cable, dsl and so on? If you are wireless, are there other networks in the area?
Can you connect into the modem's admin page? Most of them offer some sort of log that will show your connection, try the same thing with your router. Try pinging a website or wow server and see if you have any packet loss, especially at the time you get booted. Do you usually lag spike before you disconnect or do you just suddenly get booted?
It does seem a little strange that you would be able to connect directly into the modem and never lose connection. Still, I wouldn't rule out that its a problem with the modem or your signal. If you are losing all internet connectivity when you get booted from WoW, it might be worth calling your internet provider and seeing how consistent your signal is. If its cable or dsl, maybe you have a bad wire or weak connection that is causing a lot of noise. I had that problem when I lived in an apartment complex. They split the wire 4 times before it made it to my unit, but the cable company didn't bother to check it when they hooked me up. My internet would drop throughout the day, and finally I got fed up with it and called them. They ran a test on their end and told me my signal was too weak, they sent out a technician the next day and they made me a new connection and I never had a problem again.
Sorry for all the questions, but there are a lot of other things that could be leading into your issue.
