For instances:
1) The moment the tank thinks about pulling a mob, I am dropping LB or Scorch on it. Don't wait to start nuking. Very few situations a tank cannot hold the aggro.
2) My demarkation for 1 or 2 applications of Scorch is around 100K health. That number is a general figure if you know the mob will be up long enough for you to take advantage of extra crits.
3) Use your usual routines, but if the mob is 5K or less health, I will drop a Fire Blast just to get in that last bit of damage.
4) Do not save trinkets and Cooldowns (unless instant, like the IWIN button) for boss fights. Most boss fights I have come across will have you moving, or waiting, and burning up that 15-20 second timer. Trash dies faster, speeding up the run, so it's not a waste. (Tip: if you have use trinkets, they will take advantage of Amplify Magic, so you can add 120 spell power on top of whatever your trinket provides, and if getting hit where Amplify Magic is hurting you, just right click it off).
Just by doing the above, I get from 200-400 more dps in a run. It really feels like playing the meter, which I am, but it will get you in line with the other numbers you see thrown about on what your damage is. Hope that helps.

Amplify Magic
does not work that way. It increases the damage taken
from
spells. Using a trinket is not casting a damaging spell. So when Doom'mang casts Shadow Volley, you take 240 more damage, and when you cast Frostfire Bolt, you deal 0 more damage.
Everyone's given good advice about Heroic dps. Don't waste resources including cast time, cooldown duration/uptime, threat wipes, etc.

here's my suggestion.. for trash mobs, don't bother putting on all five stacks for imp. scorch (hopefully you have the glyph of imp. scorch). Cast scorch just once and instantly living bomb after it. then just FFB until the mob is down to around 10-15%. when the mob's that low, if your groups DPS is worth a flip, you won't be able to get off a full FFB without some sick amount of haste. At this point, switch to the next mob in the pull, and scorch once, living bomb again, and just start spamming your FFB. same thing, at around 10-15%, just switch mobs again. if you're down to the last mob in the pull and he's that low when your FFB goes off, just spam scorch until he's down. it's better than just casting a FFB and not being able to get it off because the mob drops. Or, if your lucky and your hot streak has procced, then let loose a pyro and fireblast right after it.. chances are that those two hits alone will drop the last 10-15% the mob has.
for bosses though, you should stick to the standard rotation. what i've found works for me is scorch>LB>scorch>FFB till the end of time... switching only to refresh LB and scorch and when you need to.
btw, i'm pretty sure it's been said, but it is a MUST to have the glyph of Frostfire, molten armor, and improved scorch. these will make your dps an untold amount higher than it would be without them.
hope this helps.

I wouldn't say that my gear is bad, but it is far from good.. I have around 1560 spell power, 200 haste rating and 24% crit rate with fire.. i'm averaging around 1200 dps..
Since you were redirected to ElitistJerks you should probably know but this Frostfire Bolt will always do horrible dps (including on raid bosses) if you have less than 30-35% crit (so that boomkin/shaman +5%, Paladin +3%, Scorch +10% brings you to 50% crit and up), because Frostfire have horrible base damage, and its whole build is based around critting, making your dps go from 1500 dps to 3600 dps in just the space of one fight depending on the RNG, but the more crit you get, the less random your dps goes.
