Critical Block: Needed or not!

Hey everyone, everytime i see a prot spec i swear i see

and i myself have specced into. I havent see any threads about it so i just wanted to get an opinion... is it really needed? I heard someone said something about how as a warrior, critical block accounts for something like only 5% of total dps... lets say u could use those points and put them into arms and get impale or something... just curious as to what you guys have to say.

For a while now I've thought of critical block as a bit of an unsung hero. Pretty frequently while tanking certain heroic/raid trash, I see "blocked" with no number after it float up the screen, I can't help but love critical block a little, in the background, passively saving my health and thus the healers mana. If you're unsure, get a healer friend to accompany you and tank up a large group of mobs with and without it over a period of say 5 minutes, see how much damage you take on recount. While not the most accurate experiment I suppose (due to the nature of the RNG), you will almost certainly notice yourself taking considerably more damage without. I did just this after 3.0 (at 70, in a mix of T6/SWP gear - haven't checked 80 scaling yet) with an average amount of block rating and value considering (most of my gear had stacked dodge) and found that crit block saved me a good deal more than you'd first imagine, especially when you have a large pull and hit shield block... with a good amount of stacked block and with critical block talented, shield block can become as effective as shield wall for large pulls of moderate damage melee mobs, a situation you'll no doubt find yourself in pretty often.
And that's without even considering the 15% crit chance on shield slam. I'd spend 3 talent points to get 15% extra crit chance on shield slam by itself, personally.

Damage shield is mediocre for single-target tanking but excellent for multi-target tanking. Given that threat is mainly an issue when multi-target tanking, the talent is among the better threat talents available.
If you have deep wounds the value of damage shield increases substantially.

While damage shield is awesome for tanking, I'm still trying to find out how good it is in pvp. Because I don't have a lot of experience, I don't know how often the melee classes avoid warriors to go after healers and other casters.
I need to make a choice between damage shield and impale here
