I recommend using
CombustionHelper
.
Its bar shows you the Critical Mass uptime, and it does take the Warlock thingy into account.
In our raids (we generally have 3-4 Warlocks with us) I barely every see the bar go below 29-28 seconds without any of the mages using Scorch.

I just have power auras showing me both shadow and flame and critical mass debuff as one aura... lawl combustion helper... addon for people who cant setup simple power aura.
You dont have to reaply it, its the same thing.

I will never understand WoW addon fundamentalism...
CombustionHelper does more than just show if dots are up or not.
Also, people may prefer bars over power auras.
I use both, both for different things.

Indeed, no need to worry about it. As long as either critical mass or shadow and flame are up, you're good. They both give 5% spell crit for anyone attacking the target.

My Rule of thumb generally is, if you have a lock with you, not to worry about the debuff. If you don't just throw a scorch in here and there to keep it up.
If you got any partly decent debuff tracker it will merge both debuffs anyway.
