Yeah, my favorite companion in the game. I really, really loved the whole Way of Zerthimon mini-quest for mages.

The circle of Zerthimon featured a bunch of totally mind shattering philosophies, i loved how much thought they put into it.
But Ignis had a rather awesome secret for you as well.
- Ignis, how did you become a pyromantic psycho?
- Well, some immortal ass shoved my hand into the fireplace.
Somehow i think Mages got the most candy in Planescape Torment. Ignis dialogue, Dak'kon dialogue, and even the quests that you have to do to become a mage are bloody awesome. When she (the granny you do quests for) reveals that every quest was kind of a metaphor, i was shocked.

Also, since I can't quote Planescape without quoting this...
If there is anything I have learned in my travels across the Planes, it is that many things may change the nature of a man. Whether regret, or love, or revenge or fear - whatever you believe can change the nature of a man, can....I’ve seen belief move cities, make men stave off death, and turn an evil hag's heart half-circle. This entire Fortress has been constructed from belief. Belief damned a woman, whose heart clung to the hope that another loved her when he did not. Once, it made a man seek immortality and achieve it. And it has made a posturing spirit think it is something more than a part of me.

I have that quote memorized, in my language :D It's easily one of the most badass statements ever.

The amount of dialogue you lost from a low wisdom, charisma, and intellect made playing a fighter a pretty bad choice. But, I much prefer playing mages anyways.

I've once completed the game as a fighter with 25 charisma and 22 intellect. Focusing on combat stats in PT is just foolish. And even if you max up dialogue stats first as a fighter, you end up as an unstoppable killing machine.

Oh God, and the whole Adahn thread to the game....
I could go on and on about its epicness

Indeed. When reading "best rpg of all times" lists, it is quite easy to tell if someone has or hasn't played Planescape Torment. It always makes me smirk when i do not see it mentioned :]

Yeah, and it's sad that no modern game has come even close to the matching PST's storytelling. When graphics weren't an issue, storytelling and originality were what made a game. Now, I doubt we'll ever see anything like it again :(

Well, Mass Effect has some gripping storytelling imo, i have read about couples where the guy plays, and the girl just watches it like a movie (amazing stuff). It can not compare to PT, that is a no brainer, but good is good nonetheless..?
I am kinda hoping for some good story in the new Fallout: New Vegas... after all, the main designers are the actual guys that designed Fallout 2, and some of them even the Baldur's Gate.

this
-- the printout Chris Avellone used to pitch Planescape.
Mass Effect was a great game, but I don't think that was because of storytelling. It was a good story, mind you, but what made the game for me was the atmosphere. It made you feel like you were making a difference in the galaxy.
