Not because abortion is a privilege, but because a person's right to him or herself without
any
government interference is a Right they have (without Due Process, of course). i.e., it shouldn't be affected by the States' opinion either.
I think there are a few grammer errors in this that are preventing me from fully understandin you.
It sounds as if you are saying that abortion is a right. If something this controversial is a right it should be outlined very clearly in the constitution. Until the constution says "abortion is right/wrong", think it should not be under federal jurisdiction to make that judgement. I'm surprised you don't agree. Also, you do have more control over state issues than federal issues. Even you must realize that.
And Laihendi: I changed your mind about something? Wow.

Admittedly Laihendi didn't know much about Schumer, he had just heard him talk before occasionally on CSPAN and he came across and very intelligent, composed, and reasonable.

"abortion is a right"
This is not what I'm saying. I'm saying the reasons for abortion are what you have a Right to. Just as you have a Right to ownership of Arms, you also have the Right to privacy, and that is why the legality of abortion cannot (or at least, cannot due to the current Supreme Court) be legislated on.
If something this controversial is a right it should be outlined very clearly in the constitution. Until the constitution says "abortion is right/wrong", I think it should not be under federal jurisdiction to make that judgement.
A non point, given the above post and the above paragraph: The Federal Congress
has not
legislated on the legality of abortion. Only the States' Congresses. Any and all of their decisions were subsequently overturned by the Supreme Court to the United States, who used the argument I am now, essentially. It may be worth your while to read up on the majority and minority opinions of the judges in
Roe v. Wade
.
It would be fair for you to (work to) attempt to amend the Constitution. But you and I both know how hard that would be to pass as an Amendment, especially given the split on abortion that currently exists.
I'm surprised you don't agree.
I don't agree. But neither do I not not agree. See above.
Also, you do have more control over state issues than federal issues. Even you must realize that.
I... don't really know... I'll have to think on it.

The right to bear arms is specifically outlined in the constitution. The right to privacy is not, and I don't think we have a right to privacy. There are proper laws governing 'searches and seizures', but that doesn't have to do with abortion.
I think you and I agree, but are going about the arguement in different ways. I would work to overturn Roe vs Wade not because I disagree with the ruleing, but because it never should have been ruled on.
Since the constitution does not directly say anything governing abortion, if I were elected senator I would work to limit federal government's authority on the issue, except in the case of an amendment. And your right, an amendment on abortion would be nearly impossible to pass, I agree. No matter how you worded it, most of the american population would disagree with it. Even more proof that there is no room for federal jurisdiction on the matter of abortion.
Still enough of a gulf of disagreement between us to barr you from voting for me?
Edit: @ Boots - I smiled.
Edit Edit: Oh wait... was funnier when it just stopped at 'anybody'.

What the hell...I don't know if I can see an actual "problem" with it, besides the fact that its stupid. I mean c'mon...
It is pretty stupid. Definately not noteworthy though. If it genuinely bothers you, then maybe you're a little sensitive about how much control the church has over government?
/sarcasm on
Someday soon those Christian Inquisitors will be forcing you to kneel before the alter and repent or face the FLAMES! License plates are just the beginning...

Someday Laihendi... someday I will see you repent! For thou heathan art whilst in thy rotten soul a demon lurch! THOU SHALT BURN!
Seriously. There is no Christian plot against you. I'm actually against the plate for obvious religious reasons, but there are bigger fish.
